Converted paper product data for AI cut and orientation evidence

The broad converted-paper category benefits from a narrowly defined task.

The broad converted-paper category benefits from a narrowly defined task. TAPPI's test-method guidance provides paper-measurement context. An original filter-disc cutting exercise can test component identity, orientation and document continuity without making a filtration-performance claim. TAPPI method context

Draw a fictional sheet with an orientation arrow and three numbered disc locations. Supply an executed cutting log and photograph paper-disc props. Mark one disc's face on its reverse side only. Ask the assistant to reconstruct each supported source relationship and identify the missing view. Include a proposed alternative nesting plan that was never executed.

Annotate sheet, cut location, disc identifier, face and operation status. Reserve a new nesting layout for evaluation. Score use of the proposed plan, unsupported face claims and wrong-parent associations separately. The key should show which evidence resolves a relationship and leave a missing transfer record unresolved.

Use ordinary paper, self-authored drawings and invented material codes. Actual technical-paper specifications, customer designs and laboratory data need source-specific permission. A contributor proposal should identify this exact cutting-and-evidence task, the independent key and the intended AI use. Buyer acceptance should determine whether further collection needs documents, images or linked capture.

Original Fiund exercise

Rotated discs and a preserved sheet direction

An original sketch shows three punched paper discs; directional marks are visible on two. No filter performance is tested.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
D1Parent sheetLong-axis arrow points toward sheet top.
D2Cut mapDisc A retains a printed arrow segment aligned to the sheet arrow.
D3Tray imageA has its arrow pointing right; B is blank, with no indexed orientation.
D4RequestRecord image orientation separately from parent-sheet direction.

Question for the model

What orientation can the annotator recover for A and B?

Show the reference answer and checks

For A, the rightward image arrow in D3 represents the original sheet direction because D2 connects it to D1. B has no usable direction marker in the tray, so it remains unresolved. A rightward tray orientation is not a change in the original material direction.

  • Assigning the same arrow to adjacent discs
  • Using tray position to infer direction for a rotationally symmetric item

Fields to preserve

parent_direction
Identifies the original sheet axis
tray_rotation
Captures how the disc sits in the current view
orientation_evidence
Identifies the retained mark or its absence

Test another case

Show a mirrored tray image with a separate mirror marker; require correction before assigning an image-side angle.

No actual filters, treatment parameters, customer products or effectiveness claims.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
