A wholesale allocation may use cases while retail-facing records use bottles. TTB publishes guidance for alcohol wholesalers. A fictional exercise can test whether software links the allocation, product variant and receiving record without simulating a sale. TTB alcohol wholesaler guidance

Invent two vintages and an allocation in two case sizes. Record a partial receipt and a change that applies to one vintage only. Ask which quantities can be converted and which remain outstanding. Score product version, case basis and receipt status.

Use empty unbranded props and independent writing. Exclude real allocations, customer lists, negotiated prices and sales records. Keep compliance decisions with authorized staff.

Describe a fictional case allocation exercise

Original Fiund exercise

Vintage-specific case sizes keep partial receipts and outstanding allocations distinct

An original allocation exercise uses empty unbranded props and invented vintage aliases. There is no beverage, actual sale, customer, negotiated price or regulated transaction.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
VCA1Original allocationVintage V1: two cases at 6 inert bottle units per case. V2: three cases at 4 each. Case bases documented separately.
VCA2Approved changeV2 allocation reduced to two cases. V1 unchanged. Original revision explicitly limited to V2.
VCA3Partial receiptReceiver confirms one case each of V1 and V2 with exact vintage and case references. No other receipt supplied.

Question for the model

What bottle-unit equivalents are currently allocated, received and outstanding for each vintage?

Show the reference answer and checks

VCA1 and VCA2 allocate 12 inert units of V1 and eight of V2 after the V2-only reduction. VCA3 receives six V1 and four V2, leaving six V1 and four V2 outstanding under the revised allocation. Preserve vintage-specific conversions and partial receipt rather than apply one case size across both or reduce V1 because V2 changed. The fixture reconciles original dummy inventory, not an actual beverage sale or compliance decision.

  • Using a uniform case size across vintages.
  • Applying one vintage's allocation change to another or counting allocations as receipts.

Fields to preserve

Vintage and case configuration
Defines conversion.
Original/revised allocation
Preserves scope.
Exact receipt and outstanding units
Supports reconciliation.

Test another case

Add a second V2 receipt of a different case configuration. Require its conversion and allocation equivalence to be checked before clearing the balance.

Use original empty props and independent records. Exclude real customer and sales data; authorized staff retain actual product decisions.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
