Steel tube manufacturing data for AI coil and seam records

Tube made from purchased steel can carry both source-coil history and later manufacturing records.

NAICS 331210 · Iron and Steel Pipe and Tube Manufacturing from Purchased Steel

Tube made from purchased steel can carry both source-coil history and later manufacturing records. AISC's identification guidance supplies public context for preserving material relationships. An original exercise can test whether those stages remain connected. AISC identification context

Write a fictional coil receipt, tube-production traveler and inspection index. Split one coil across two tube runs and join a later coil at a documented boundary. Ask the assistant which lengths are supported by each source record. Add a seam-inspection entry whose tube-run identifier is absent, even though the date matches. The key should preserve that missing association rather than treat timing as proof.

Annotate source coil, run interval, joining boundary, tube identifier and inspection reference. Evaluation can change the length convention and introduce a corrected boundary entry. Score wrong-source assignment separately from incorrect inspection matching. A visible seam or matching dimension should not establish that a test result belongs to the current tube.

Use original tables and safe tube-shaped props. Supplier reports, customer drawings and proprietary process settings require source-specific permission. Describe the lineage task and qualified reviewer key to prospective buyers. Their accepted specification should determine the records and capture context needed before further material is prepared for licensing.

Original Fiund exercise

A seam record stops where its inspection window stops

A toy tube traveler uses invented segment keys. No real welding or production procedures appear.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
1Coil receiptSource coil K5 feeds segments A and B.
2TravelerA assigned positions 0–10; B positions 10–20.
3Inspection indexReport I4 covers seam positions 2–8 only.

Question for the model

What coverage should the directory show?

Show the reference answer and checks

I4 covers positions 2–8 within segment A using records 2 and 3. It does not cover all of A, and no part of B falls in that window. Record 1 supplies source lineage for both segments, which is separate from inspection coverage.

  • Labeling an entire segment inspected from a partial interval
  • Extending an inspection across shared coil lineage

Fields to preserve

segment_position_range
Defines coverage units
report_window
Records the actual inspected interval
source_coil_id
Preserves provenance without implying coverage

Test another case

Use an inspection window spanning the segment boundary and return both partial intervals.

No actual seam parameters, pipe applications, inspection thresholds or quality release.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
