Rolled steel shape data for AI section and source review

Material identification can become difficult when similar steel sections share a grade but have different dimensions or processing histories.

NAICS 331221 · Rolled Steel Shape Manufacturing

Material identification can become difficult when similar steel sections share a grade but have different dimensions or processing histories. AISC discusses identification and traceability levels. A producer can define an original task around the exact evidence its records preserve. AISC fabrication FAQ

Create fictional purchased-stock tickets, a rolling-run sheet and section drawings. Change one section dimension between order revisions while retaining the product-family name. Ask the assistant which drawing applies to the executed run and which source ticket is linked. Include a finished bundle with a readable grade but an unreadable run identifier. The key should distinguish the declared grade from the unresolved run association.

Annotate stock source, rolling event, section geometry, drawing revision and visible identifier. Hold out an unfamiliar section outline for evaluation. Score wrong-revision selection, unsupported source matching and dimensional transcription separately. A complete case should have sufficient evidence for a supported association without requiring the model to guess from shape.

Use self-authored drawings and invented reports. Customer designs, supplier documents and production-system exports need permission for the intended AI use. A licensing proposal should explain the revision-and-lineage task and independently checked examples. Confirm the buyer's accepted scope before preparing an operating archive or commissioning more capture.

Original Fiund exercise

The drawing changes mid-run, but one shape predates it

Original paper profiles show two fictional section variants without structural values.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
1Section registerS2 rev A before run marker 80, rev B from 80.
2Run sheetPart X marker 76; part Y marker 82.
3Photo overlayX matches A geometry; Y also matches A.

Question for the model

Which part is inconsistent with its effective drawing?

Show the reference answer and checks

Y is inconsistent because records 1 and 2 assign rev B at marker 82, but record 3 shows A geometry. X matches its own earlier A reference at 76. Preserve each part's run marker when labeling the comparison.

  • Applying the latest revision to the entire run
  • Treating identical shapes as equally correct regardless of effectivity

Fields to preserve

run_marker
Locates each item relative to the change
section_revision
Selects its drawing
profile_observation
Preserves actual geometry class

Test another case

Use two lines with distinct effectivity markers and require line-specific revision lookup.

No actual steel design sections, load ratings, processing controls or engineering decisions.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
