A unit can be reserved before occupancy and vacated before a staff member verifies it is available. The Self Storage Association describes the operating model for rented storage space. An operator can build a synthetic timeline that asks a model to report what each record supports. Self Storage Association industry description

Invent two units with similar numbers. Give one a reservation, a signed rental event, and a verified turnover. Give the other a planned move-out with no confirmation. Ask which dates can be attributed to each unit and whether the sample supports the stated status. Include a note from the wrong building to test identity.

Use no unit contents, gate or access records, security details, tenant information, account files, or images of real storage units. The exercise does not authorize access or disposal.

Original Fiund exercise

A planned move-out does not establish a verified available unit

Two imaginary storage buildings have similarly numbered units. The timeline distinguishes reservation, rental, planned departure and staff turnover verification without access or disposal actions.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
SS1Building A unit 12 timelineReserved day 1; signed rental event day 3; recorded vacancy day 10; staff verifies turnover complete day 11.
SS2Building A unit 21 timelineSigned rental event day 4; planned move-out day 12. No actual vacancy or turnover check supplied.
SS3Misfiled staff noteBuilding B unit 21 turnover complete day 12. Copied into A/21 folder without identity correction.

Question for the model

Which unit has a verified turnover event, and what status does the packet support for A/21 after its planned move-out date?

Show the reference answer and checks

SS1 documents distinct events culminating in verified turnover for A/12 on day 11. SS2 records only a planned move-out for A/21; passage of day 12 does not establish actual vacancy or availability. SS3 belongs to B/21 and cannot close A/21's missing check. Report the last supported A/21 event and the unresolved vacancy/turnover milestones, without authorizing entry, rental, access or disposal.

  • Automatically changing status to available when a planned departure date passes.
  • Joining staff notes on unit 21 while dropping the building identity.

Fields to preserve

Building and unit key
Disambiguates repeated unit numbers.
Event type and date
Separates reservation, rental and actual turnover.
Plan versus confirmation
Keeps an intended move-out from becoming an observed vacancy.

Test another case

Confirm A/21 vacancy but record turnover inspection pending. Require a vacant-but-unverified state rather than available.

Use invented timelines only. Include no tenant data, unit contents, gate logs, access codes, security details, account files or real-unit imagery.
