Resawing and planing data for AI piece continuity
Cut stock and resawing change the number and dimensions of pieces while a source relationship may need to be retained.
NAICS 321912 · Cut Stock, Resawing Lumber, and Planing
Cut stock and resawing change the number and dimensions of pieces while a source relationship may need to be retained. The USDA Wood Handbook provides wood-processing context. An original task can focus on the evidence that preserves that continuity. USDA wood-processing context
Make a fictional rough-board ticket, a resaw diagram and a planing tally. Split one board into three strips, then shorten one strip in a later operation. Ask the assistant to reconstruct the documented parent-child paths. Include a similarly sized strip from another board and an estimated yield written before the work. The key should use executed piece records rather than dimensions or the estimate alone.
Annotate input board, cut event, piece identity, processing stage and measurement unit. Hold out a different cutting sequence for evaluation. Score false joins between similar pieces separately from omitted descendants. If a cut record is missing, preserve the affected relationship as unresolved rather than explaining it through a guessed offcut or loss.
Use original diagrams and authorized sample pieces. Actual customer dimensions, supplier grading documents and machine-screen exports need source-specific permission. Describe the lineage task, review key and available operation history in the proposal. A buyer's accepted brief should determine whether further collection needs video, records or linked observations.

Two planed pieces from one rough board
A fictional sawmill models board lineage with rectangular cutouts. The records count output pieces independently of sample volumes.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| R1 | Rough-board ticket | Parent RB14 accepted for the example run. |
| R2 | Resaw map | RB14 yields RB14-a and RB14-b; neighbor RB41 yields RB41-a. |
| R3 | Planing tally | RB14-a completed, RB14-b awaiting planing, RB41-a completed. |
| R4 | Dashboard | Two completed pieces shown for the combined queue. |
Question for the model
How many planed pieces can the reviewer count under RB14?
Show the reference answer and checks
Count one completed piece under RB14: RB14-a. R2 establishes its parent and R3 confirms completion. RB14-b belongs to the same parent but is pending. The queue total in R4 includes RB41-a and cannot be copied to RB14.
- Counting a resawn piece as planed automatically
- Using a combined queue denominator for a single parent
Fields to preserve
- parent_board_id
- Links only the correct children
- step_status
- Separates resaw and planing milestones
- tally_grain
- Distinguishes queue totals from per-board output
Test another case
Record a child as scrapped and replaced from a different board; track the actual new parent.
No real production yield, saw settings, buyer identities or lumber grade certification.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
