A useful finish carpentry recording shows why a piece fits one opening and fails another. A useful millwork record can show how the same mismatch was caught at the shop before the part reached the jobsite. micro1 shows carpentry among examples in its trade recording program. Follow one piece from trial fit to disposition
Set up a training opening and two pre-cut mock pieces. Record the part ID, orientation, the visible mismatch and what the qualified reviewer decides. A finish installer can show the field fit and how the piece is marked for rework. A millwork shop can show which approved drawing revision, part label and inspection record agree or disagree. Pair the evidence with the final disposition, such as accept, replace or check the specification. Use a second piece with a similar profile to test whether the model checks dimensions and orientation.
For video understanding, label the view and the time the mismatch becomes observable. For a document assistant, provide the fictional part traveler and the two drawing revisions without the clip. Ask the buyer which inputs it needs.
Use pre-cut samples and approved drawings
Keep powered woodworking equipment outside the exercise. Get approval from the employer and participants, and remove project plans, addresses and customer identities. OSHA’s woodworking material outlines hazards a shop should account for in its own safety process. OSHA woodworking

Original Fiund exercise
Track a millwork mismatch from the drawing to the observed fit
Two pre-cut foam pieces and a ground-level opening fixture support a safe fit-observation exercise. All dimensions are practice units; no cutting or powered woodworking is shown.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| FM1 | Internally authored drawing revision B | Opening O1 requires profile P, labeled width 20; revision A width 18 is superseded. |
| FM2 | Part traveler | Piece M1: profile P, width 18, made against revision A. Piece M2: profile P, width 20, revision B. |
| FM3 | Training clip and reviewer note | At 00:14 M1 label readable; a gap is visible in O1. Reviewer marks M1 for specification check. M2 is not trial-fitted. |
Question for the model
Which documented mismatch explains the M1 review flag, and what evidence supports or limits a fit claim for M2?
Show the reference answer and checks
FM1 and FM2 show that M1 retains the superseded width-18 specification while O1's current drawing calls for width 20. FM3 links the visible gap and reviewer flag to that labeled piece at 00:14. M2's traveler matches revision B on paper, but no supplied trial fit confirms its observed fit or acceptance. Distinguish document agreement from demonstrated fit.
- Calling M2 physically accepted because its traveler matches the current drawing.
- Losing the time-coded M1 identity and assigning the gap to the similar-profile M2.
Fields to preserve
- Part, opening and drawing revision
- Preserves the full specification relationship.
- Time-coded identity and orientation
- Connects a visible mismatch to the correct piece.
- Reviewer disposition
- Records a specification check without inventing a completed repair.
- Documented versus observed dimensions
- Separates traveler data from what the clip shows.
Test another case
Show a rotated M2 view with its label hidden and a gap caused by a removable spacer. Require the answer to distinguish uncertain identity and visible obstruction from a proven part-dimension error.
Use approved pre-cut lightweight pieces and independent drawings. Exclude powered tools, customer plans, addresses, worker identities and production dimensions.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
