Newspaper correction and article version data for AI

A newspaper archive has both published stories and later corrections.

NAICS 513110 · Newspaper Publishers

A newspaper archive has both published stories and later corrections. OpenAI has announced a partnership with News Corp, and IPTC documents structured exchange of news and updates. A publisher can use original practice articles to show which version an answer should cite. A named partnership does not establish terms for another publisher. OpenAI and News Corp · IPTC NewsML-G2

Write a short fictional report and correct one detail later. Include a wire-style insert you authored for the exercise, labeled as excluded. Ask the model to identify the correction, publication time and source that supports a statement. Test both the historical answer and the corrected answer.

Confirm rights separately for staff work, freelance work, wire content, photos, reader material and archive exports. Keep subscriber and source information private.

Answer the historical question and corrected question from different versions

An editor writes a fictional report and correction. A separate dummy wire-style insert is original text labeled excluded for the practice use, allowing retrieval and permission to be scored independently.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
NP1Original report at 09:00Practice event starts Friday; article version V1.
NP2Authorized correction at 11:00Corrects event day to Saturday; V2 supersedes that detail in V1. Other details unchanged.
NP3Excluded insertDummy wire-style sidebar says Sunday for a different event. Source register excludes the sidebar from practice use U.

Question for the model

What did the report state at 10:00, what is its corrected day after 11:00, and can the sidebar answer either question?

Show the reference answer and checks

NP1 supports that the report stated Friday at 10:00, before the correction. NP2 makes Saturday the corrected day after 11:00 without erasing the historical V1 statement. NP3 concerns another event and is separately excluded from practice use U. The answer should cite the requested time and article version, keeping historical publication, corrected fact and source permission distinct.

  • Applying the correction retroactively to a question about what was published at 10:00.
  • Using the sidebar's Sunday answer because it appears in the same archive packet.

Fields to preserve

Article and event identity
Distinguishes the main report from the sidebar.
Publication and correction time
Defines which version answers a historical question.
Field-specific supersession
Keeps unaffected facts intact.
Source permission
Preserves an exclusion independently of retrieval accuracy.

Test another case

Correct a location field but leave the event day untouched. Require field-level revision handling instead of assuming every later story replaces all earlier facts.

Use original reports and dummy inserts. Exclude real subscriber data, confidential sources, wire copy, reader material and unlicensed photographs.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
