Glass container defect images for AI review

A mark in a glass bottle can be a surface defect, an internal feature, or a reflection that moves with the light.

NAICS 327213 · Glass Container Manufacturing

A mark in a glass bottle can be a surface defect, an internal feature, or a reflection that moves with the light. Photos from one angle leave those distinctions unresolved. NIST has studied detecting and locating manufacturing defects from images. A glass container team can supply a more specific problem with qualified review and repeatable views. Capture two still images at a known turn angle on a stable fixture, with the same specimen ID in the record. For an approved retained example, have a reviewer mark where the feature stays fixed relative to the container. Add a sound container with a strong moving reflection. Record whether a separate check was required. The buyer can grade localization and whether the assistant recognizes uncertainty from the first image alone.

Use cold, unfilled training specimens that the facility has approved for handling. Do not create damaged glass for a sample. Exclude custom mold identifiers, brand markings, and production yield statistics unless expressly cleared.

Original Fiund exercise

A seam survives rotation but glare moves

An owned transparent prop represents a container. Reference marks align two staged views.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
1ReferenceA designed seam sits at angle 0 relative to the base mark.
2View 1Vertical white streak at angle 20; seam at 0.
3View 2After rotating the prop relative to the light, seam remains at 0; white streak shifts to angle 65.

Question for the model

Which feature is tied to the object frame?

Show the reference answer and checks

The seam stays at angle 0 in both records 2 and 3 and agrees with record 1. The moving streak behaves as a view-dependent feature, so do not label it a persistent object defect without more evidence. Retain both views for audit.

  • Using image coordinates instead of the base mark
  • Treating a highlight as a fixed defect from one frame

Test another case

Use a fixed scratch and a moving highlight in the same angular region on one frame; separate them using the second view.
