Debt collection validation and dispute records for AI

A useful dataset for a collection agency can test whether software reconciles a stated amount to an itemization and preserves an unresolved dispute.

A useful dataset for a collection agency can test whether software reconciles a stated amount to an itemization and preserves an unresolved dispute. The CFPB describes validation information and the circumstances in which a written verification request affects collection activity. Keep the exercise on evidence comparison and route any compliance decision to a human reviewer. CFPB debt validation information

Invent a balance with a dated credit. Build one notice that matches the ledger and a second that duplicates the credit or leaves it out. Attach a synthetic dispute event to one case. A reviewer should be able to reproduce the arithmetic and find the dispute event without inferring that the debt is owed or collectible.

Use fully fictional records and unassigned identifiers. Exclude consumer reports, account numbers, real call audio and collections histories. Get internal authorization for any original process materials included.

Describe a synthetic validation sample

Original Fiund exercise

An itemized credit must be applied once, while a dispute remains a separate event

An original synthetic ledger uses arbitrary units and no actual debtor, account, notice or collection action. Its arithmetic does not establish that any debt is owed or collectible.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
DV1Practice ledgerOpening amount 100 units; dated credit C1 of 20. No other adjustments under the fixture's stated rule.
DV2Notice comparisonsNotice N1 reports 80 and itemizes C1 once. Notice N2 reports 60 because it subtracts the same C1 twice; same ledger reference.
DV3Dispute eventOriginal mock dispute D references N1, date day 5. No later resolution or compliance decision supplied.

Question for the model

Which notice reconciles to the stated ledger, what error appears in the other, and what status must the summary preserve?

Show the reference answer and checks

DV1 supports 100 minus the single 20-unit credit, or 80 practice units, matching N1 in DV2. N2 subtracts C1 twice and understates that arithmetic result by 20. DV3 separately records a dispute of N1 and supplies no resolution. Preserve the dispute even though N1's numbers reconcile; arithmetic agreement does not determine validity, liability, collectibility or what action a collector may lawfully take.

  • Counting an identical credit reference twice.
  • Treating arithmetic reconciliation as proof that a disputed obligation is valid or collectible.

Fields to preserve

Ledger and adjustment reference
Defines unique entries.
Notice itemization and calculated amount
Supports reconciliation.
Dispute target, date and unresolved state
Keeps a separate documentary issue visible.

Test another case

Replace the duplicate C1 with a distinct verified C2 credit of 20. Require the 60-unit result only after the additional source exists.

Use fictional forms and values. Exclude consumer reports, account numbers, audio and histories; authorized staff retain legal and collection decisions.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
