A campaign contractor can test whether a model separates stated pledges from payments that were actually received. The Census manual places contract or fee-based fundraising campaign organization in this industry. The example targets the contractor’s campaign reconciliation workflow. U.S. Census 2022 NAICS manual
Create an invented campaign with three pledge entries, two matching payments and one payment referencing another campaign. Add an original campaign note stating that one contribution is restricted to a specific project. Ask for confirmed receipts by campaign and a separate list of pending pledges and restrictions. A reviewer should be able to reproduce both totals and explain the excluded payment.
Use fabricated donor and transaction references and your own original campaign material. Keep donation histories, payment credentials, prospect lists and partner creative out of the sample.
Describe a fictional campaign reconciliation sample
Original Fiund exercise
Pledges, received payments and project restrictions need separate totals
An invented contractor-run campaign has artificial donor aliases and payment references. It contains no donation history, credential, prospect list or actual fundraising action.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| FR1 | Campaign A pledges | P1=50 units, P2=30, P3=20. Total promised 100 practice units; original pledge cards supplied. |
| FR2 | Matched receipts | Payment R1=50 links A/P1; R2=30 links A/P2. Original note restricts R2 to project Q. No P3 payment supplied. |
| FR3 | Other campaign payment | Payment R3=20 links campaign B, not A/P3. Similar amount but no cross-campaign allocation or correction. |
Question for the model
What receipts are confirmed for A, which pledge remains pending, and what restriction must survive the summary?
Show the reference answer and checks
FR2 confirms 80 practice units received for campaign A against P1 and P2. FR1's P3 remains a 20-unit pledge without matching payment; FR3's equal-value receipt belongs to B. Preserve R2's 30-unit project-Q restriction separately from the total rather than treat all 80 as unrestricted. The 100-unit promised total and 80-unit received total describe different states and must not be added together.
- Counting pledges as additional receipts or using another campaign's equal payment to fill a gap.
- Dropping a project restriction when aggregating confirmed receipts.
Fields to preserve
- Campaign and pledge reference
- Defines the promise.
- Payment match and received amount
- Supports the receipt total.
- Restriction target and pending pledge
- Preserves use scope and missing fulfillment.
Test another case
Add a partial ten-unit A/P3 payment. Require received total 90 and remaining P3 promise ten, retaining Q's restriction.
Use original fabricated campaign material. Exclude donor histories, payment details, partner creative and outreach lists.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
