“Looks like the proof” is an incomplete pass when the proof was replaced. A print shop can demonstrate how it connects the approved file, a press sheet, and a measured control strip. Idealliance runs certification for press control systems. Scale’s public data-partnership description includes document revisions and workflow records. Check whether a buyer wants a print-specific evaluation before preparing production records. Idealliance G7 press control · Scale Data Partnerships

Give the reviewer two versions of an original promotional card. Change one graphic element in the later file and keep the file ID and approval timestamp visible. Use a second sheet where the file is correct but one measured value differs from the target. A good answer identifies a version mismatch versus a press variation and cites the artifact that separates them. Use simple fictional target values and indicate which readings came from an instrument.

Release rights must cover the design and any embedded image or typeface. Strip customer names, artwork metadata, and unreleased campaigns. An in-house test design is enough for the first review.

Describe a print proofing workflow

Original Fiund exercise

An artwork change versus a print-only shift

An original two-shape design appears in two fictional proof revisions. The example compares positions against a specific signed-off mock version.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
P1Rev A proofSquare aligned to tick 10; circle to tick 20.
P2Approved rev BSquare moved to 11; circle remains 20.
P3Run imageSquare at 11 and circle at 22; registration ruler visible.
P4Run ticketRun designated rev B.

Question for the model

Which position difference is attributable to revision and which is a run discrepancy?

Show the reference answer and checks

The square change from 10 to 11 is documented in P2 and matches the rev B run in P3–P4. The circle at 22 differs from rev B's 20, so it is a run-versus-proof discrepancy. The records do not identify the mechanical cause.

  • Comparing to rev A and flagging the intended square movement
  • Diagnosing press drift from one unexplained offset

Test another case

Add a run tagged rev B but a proof marked superseded; require a current approval record before comparison.

Use original art; exclude client files, actual ink parameters and confidential proof archives.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
