Glossary
Voice and likeness consent
Permission from an identifiable person to use their voice or appearance for AI training or generation — distinct from, and not covered by, a copyright licence to the recording.
Consent should be written, name the person, and state the permitted uses — training, synthesis, cloning — rather than rely on broadcast-era boilerplate. Right-of-publicity laws protect voice in many US states, some now naming AI cloning explicitly, and biometric-privacy statutes can apply on top. A copyright licence to the recording does not substitute for it.
Why it matters
Without voice consent, even fully copyright-cleared audio cannot safely be used for cloning or synthesizing an identifiable voice.
