Voice cloning
Synthesizing a specific person’s voice from recorded samples of their speech. Lawful cloning requires that person’s explicit voice consent, separate from any copyright licence to the recordings.
Modern zero-shot systems can imitate a voice from a few seconds of audio, while production-quality custom voices use more. The ease of cloning is why consent, not audio volume, is the binding constraint. Right-of-publicity and biometric-privacy laws increasingly address AI voice cloning by name.
Why it matters
A cloned voice of a named person is only lawful with that person’s explicit consent, whoever owns the recording copyright.
