A used vehicle listing can keep an old description after the dealership updates a disclosure. The FTC explains the role of the Buyers Guide. A dealer can make a fictional record packet to test whether a model cites the correct source. FTC buying a used car from a dealer

Draw two vehicle outlines and mark a cosmetic observation on one. Pair a revised disclosure with a stock label and an older listing. Ask which record applies and whether the image supports the stated condition. Leave legal interpretation and any actual warranty decision with staff.

Use fictional inventory and original photos or drawings. Exclude real VINs, titles, deals, faces and license plates. Check rights before including third-party inspection or history reports.

Original Fiund exercise

A current condition disclosure needs a matching stock record and a scoped observation

Two original vehicle outlines and invalid stock aliases form an administrative fixture. No real vehicle, VIN, face, plate, title, deal or warranty determination appears.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
UC1Listing historyMock stock A originally described as 'no marked cosmetic observation.' That listing predates revised disclosure D2.
UC2Current disclosure D2Explicitly replaces A's cosmetic field with mark M on region R. Original matched drawing A shows M in R; no mechanical condition finding.
UC3Neighbor recordStock A2 has a clear-looking drawing and a similar model title. No A-to-A2 equivalence or supersession supplied.

Question for the model

Which current condition statement is supported for A, and can the drawing or old listing support a broader condition or warranty conclusion?

Show the reference answer and checks

UC2 supplies A's current disclosed mark M in region R and a matching original drawing. UC1 is earlier wording explicitly replaced in that field. UC3's clear-looking A2 drawing belongs to another stock unit. Report the revised cosmetic observation and its limited region without extending it to mechanical condition, actual warranty terms or a legal disclosure determination. The fixture tests exact record linkage and scope.

  • Using the old listing after an explicit field revision.
  • Extending a cosmetic view to a mechanical, warranty or different-vehicle conclusion.

Fields to preserve

Stock alias and disclosure revision
Defines the controlling record.
Observation region and matched drawing
Supports visible evidence.
Scope and superseded wording
Limits the summary.

Test another case

Add an original photo description for A's different region. Require it to remain separate rather than erase the documented R mark.

Use original drawings and fictional inventory. Exclude actual identities and deal files; clear third-party history reports separately if ever used.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
