A dealer can teach an assistant to distinguish factory equipment, dealer-installed accessories and options that were merely quoted. NHTSA provides VIN decoding resources. Scale’s Data Partnerships program publicly lists retail and consumer workflows, and requests real operating records under an approved scope. NHTSA VIN decoder · Scale Data Partnerships

Give a fictional build sheet and dealer addendum similar stock IDs. Put an installed accessory on only one vehicle and an unsigned estimate on the other. Ask which configuration is supported and have a reviewer score identity, source and installation status.

Start with original dummy sheets and manufacturer-neutral models. Keep actual VINs, buyers, pricing agreements and dealer management exports out. Confirm dealership and vendor rights before discussing real records.

Original Fiund exercise

Factory equipment, installed dealer additions and quoted options belong in separate fields

Two manufacturer-neutral mock vehicles use invalid stock aliases and original paperwork. No actual VIN, buyer, price or dealership export appears.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
NC1Factory sheetsStock DEMO-A1 includes factory option F. Stock DEMO-AI, final letter I, lists no F. Distinct dummy vehicle references.
NC2Dealer additionSigned installation record explicitly names A1 and accessory D. No source says D was factory-installed.
NC3Unsigned estimateAI estimate quotes accessory D but no installation record. Similar stock text and same accessory name as NC2.

Question for the model

Which configuration is documented for each stock alias, and can the estimate establish installation on AI?

Show the reference answer and checks

NC1 supports factory option F on A1 only. NC2 independently documents dealer installation of D on A1; it does not turn D into factory equipment. NC3 quotes D for separate AI without installation evidence. Preserve factory, installed and merely quoted states and the exact stock characters rather than transfer a signed installation through a near match or treat an estimate as an observed configuration.

  • Merging similar stock IDs and transferring an installed option to another vehicle.
  • Treating a dealer quote or addition as factory equipment without the matching source.

Fields to preserve

Invalid stock and vehicle alias
Disambiguates units.
Factory option source
Defines original configuration.
Dealer installation versus quote status
Preserves later equipment evidence.

Test another case

Add AI's signed D installation with a later date. Require it to become documented as dealer-installed without changing the factory sheet.

Use independently written dummy sheets. Exclude VINs, deals and management-system exports; dealership and vendor rights need separate review.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
