A dealer’s listing can show an accessory in stock without confirming that it fits a particular trim or model year. CPSC publishes ATV safety information. A store can use a nonfunctional display fixture to test whether software distinguishes documented fitment and availability. CPSC ATV Safety Information Center

Invent two variants with similar names and provide a compatibility card for one. Photograph two inert mounting shapes and add a separate inventory record. Ask which accessory is supported by the supplied reference and which needs checking. Leave equipment modification or safety recommendations to staff.

Use authorized props and original tables. Exclude real customer orders, VINs, keys, proprietary manuals and operating footage.

In-stock status does not establish accessory compatibility for a different trim

Two nonfunctional display shapes use original fictional model-year and trim cards. No real ATV, VIN, key, installation, customer or operating demonstration is involved.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
PCF1Practice compatibility cardAccessory X documented for model M/year Y1/trim A only. No listed fit for trim B or year Y2.
PCF2Inventory cardAccessory X in stock with quantity 3. Similar accessory Z also stocked. Inventory records do not establish fitment.
PCF3Display photosTrim B mock mounting shape resembles trim A. No dimensioned verification or approved B compatibility reference supplied.

Question for the model

What compatibility and availability facts are supported, and can the similar trim B shape establish an X fit?

Show the reference answer and checks

PCF1 supports X's documented practice match only for M/Y1/trim A. PCF2 separately reports three units in stock, without adding a trim or year to the fitment scope. PCF3's similar mounting shape does not establish B compatibility without its own verified reference. Preserve availability and exact variant conditions as different fields rather than recommend modification, installation or safe use of actual equipment from the display.

  • Treating inventory availability as proof of model compatibility.
  • Extending a trim-specific reference from similar-looking mounting geometry.

Fields to preserve

Model, year and trim
Defines the variant.
Accessory and compatibility source
Limits the match.
Stock status and unresolved fitment
Separates availability from applicability.

Test another case

Add a verified B card for year Y2 only. Require Y1/B to remain unsupported rather than apply a newly approved year globally.

Use original cards and authorized inert props. Exclude vehicles, orders and manuals; qualified staff retain actual fitment decisions.
