University catalog and degree requirement records for AI
A program catalog can change between cohorts, and a filed exception may apply to just one requirement.

A program catalog can change between cohorts, and a filed exception may apply to just one requirement. Federal Student Aid materials provide context for how institutions publish academic program information. A university can create a practice degree-audit question without a real academic record. Federal Student Aid consumer information handbook
Invent a degree and two catalog versions. Add an authorized exception applying to one practice requirement, and a draft exception without approval. Ask which catalog supports the baseline rule and what remains unresolved. Grade catalog identity, version and scope separately from a graduation decision.
Use no real transcripts, student names, accommodations, advising notes, unpublished catalog edits or licensed course material. Keep decisions with authorized staff.
Describe a catalog version benchmark
Original Fiund exercise
An approved exception changes only its named requirement
A fictional degree program and catalog history test rule scope. No transcript, student, accommodation or graduation decision is represented.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| UCAT1 | Practice catalog 2025 | Program Delta requires R1 and R2. Catalog 2026 instead requires R1 and R3 for its entering group. |
| UCAT2 | Authorized practice exception E1 | For fictional case F under catalog 2025, substitute X for R2 only. |
| UCAT3 | Draft exception E2 | Proposes waiving R1 for F; approval blank. No record moves F to the 2026 catalog. |
Question for the model
What baseline and authorized modification apply to F, and which proposed or later rules remain inapplicable on this packet?
Show the reference answer and checks
UCAT2 explicitly places F under catalog 2025 and authorizes X in place of R2 only. UCAT1's remaining R1 requirement is unchanged. UCAT3's proposed R1 waiver lacks approval, and the 2026 R3 requirement belongs to a different entering-group catalog without a transition record for F. Report the scoped rules and unresolved draft rather than making a graduation or eligibility determination.
- Applying the newest catalog automatically despite a stated 2025 baseline.
- Expanding an R2 substitution into a waiver of R1 or the whole program.
Fields to preserve
- Program and governing catalog
- Establishes the baseline rule set.
- Exception scope and approval
- Identifies exactly which requirement changes.
- Draft versus effective rule
- Preserves an unapproved proposal without treating it as authority.
Test another case
Add an authorized catalog-transition record to 2026 that says nothing about E1's survival. Require the answer to flag that unresolved exception relationship rather than assuming it transfers.
Use fabricated catalogs and cases. Exclude real academic records, student names, advising notes, accommodations, unpublished institutional edits and licensed course material.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
