Precision turned-part data for AI station and dimension review
NIST publishes surface and dimensional measurement resources.
NAICS 332721 · Precision Turned Product Manufacturing
NIST publishes surface and dimensional measurement resources. A manufacturer can define an original task that keeps each observation attached to the correct feature and specimen. NIST measurement context
Draw a fictional stepped cylindrical part with three numbered stations and a reference end. Supply an inspection table containing separate diameters and axial locations. Ask which observation answers a selected drawing callout. Include a reversed view and a neighboring station with a similar numeric value. The key should follow the station reference before selecting a result.
Annotate specimen, reference end, station, feature, unit and drawing revision. Hold out a new profile for evaluation. Score axial and diameter values confused, wrong-station selection and view reversal independently. A complete case should cite the callout and measurement field that establish the comparison, with any intended arithmetic rule supplied.
Use original geometry and invented measurements without operating a machine. Customer part designs, licensed specifications, proprietary production records and outside inspection reports require authority and qualified review. A licensing brief should identify the feature-selection task and checked examples. Confirm buyer requirements before preparing commercial files or commissioning further capture.

Original Fiund exercise
The smallest station number is not camera-left
A paper stepped silhouette has an asymmetric reference end. The dimension table is invented.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Drawing | Stations 1, 2, 3 in order moving away from square end. |
| 2 | Photo | Square end on image-right; middle step tagged 2. |
| 3 | Measurement sheet | Station 1: 14 mm, station 2: 10 mm, station 3: 8 mm. |
Question for the model
What value belongs with the visible far-left station?
Show the reference answer and checks
The far-left station is 3, because the square reference is on the right in record 2 and record 1 counts away from it. Associate the 8 mm table value from record 3 with station 3, without treating the image as independent dimensional verification.
- Counting stations left-to-right without the datum
- Confusing table linkage with image measurement
Fields to preserve
- reference_end
- Defines station order
- station_number
- Joins dimension and location
- evidence_source
- Distinguishes table and imagery
Test another case
Crop off the reference end and use an unlabeled symmetric part; require an unresolved outer station mapping.
No real drawings, machining instructions, calibration guidance or inspection tolerances.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
