Fastener manufacturing data for AI series and length records

Bolts, nuts, screws, rivets and washers form a defined Census category.

NAICS 332722 · Bolt, Nut, Screw, Rivet, and Washer Manufacturing

Bolts, nuts, screws, rivets and washers form a defined Census category. An original task can preserve the difference between a product-series reference and a measured feature on a selected specimen. Census fastener scope

Create fictional fastener cards, a glossary and a drawing with its length reference marked. Give two variants similar nominal sizes but different series codes. Ask the assistant which specimen record answers the order. Include an overall length beside a length measured from the exercise's stated reference surface and a card missing its series suffix.

Annotate variant, series, reference surface, specimen, dimension and unit. Evaluate with a new card layout and explicitly defined naming scheme. Score nominal size treated as complete identity, the wrong length convention selected and a missing suffix guessed independently. The key should use the supplied glossary and drawing rather than a remembered real-world convention.

Use original records, paper props and invented values. Customer specifications, certification marks, licensed standards and laboratory reports need appropriate authority and specialist review. Describe the identity-and-reference task and checked key in the licensing brief. Establish buyer requirements before preparing commercial histories or additional capture.

Original Fiund exercise

Two equally labeled lengths start from different places

Paper fastener drawings use invented series names and dimension conventions.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
1GlossarySeries F measures from underside of head; series G measures from head top.
2OrderF length 12 mm on the underside basis.
3CandidateG 12 mm overall, head 2 mm high on same axis.

Question for the model

Does the candidate match the requested length and series?

Show the reference answer and checks

No. It is G rather than F, and its equivalent underside-to-tip span is 10 mm (12 − 2), not 12 mm. Records 1–3 require preserving series and converting measurement origin before comparing geometry. This exercise does not determine actual interchangeability.

  • Matching the printed length without its datum
  • Treating equal dimensional spans as proof of series equivalence

Fields to preserve

series_id
Selects measurement convention
length_datum
Identifies the origin
head_height_mm
Supports the stated origin conversion

Test another case

Provide an F candidate measured from the wrong datum and require a conversion without changing its series ID.

No real fastener standards, torque guidance, fit decisions or supplier specifications.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
