Testing laboratory records for evaluating AI measurement review
A test result is useful to an AI reviewer only if the supporting measurement can be traced.

A test result is useful to an AI reviewer only if the supporting measurement can be traced. NIST explains metrological traceability as a property of a measurement result supported by a documented chain. A lab can use approved demonstration records to test whether an assistant identifies missing information before a human reviews the result. NIST metrological traceability guidance
Create one certificate packet with a real discrepancy
Use a controlled test specimen and a fabricated certificate. Include the measured value, units, applicable method version, instrument reference, uncertainty statement and environmental notes. Introduce an inconsistency between the instrument reference and calibration evidence. A correct assistant should flag the discrepancy and identify the missing proof. Use a second packet where the evidence is complete to measure false alarms.
Keep the acceptance rubric with the packet and have an authorized reviewer confirm the expected finding. A pilot can test document completeness and cross-reference accuracy without delegating a safety, certification or compliance judgment.
Keep client results and controlled methods private
Use internally owned examples or obtain written authority for third-party material. Remove customer identities, unapproved specifications and test results, controlled drawings and unique specimen identifiers. Ask who can approve the dataset, the relevant method documents and the permitted scope.
Describe the missing-evidence problem and the check a reviewer performs. Include the sample format and how the correct result can be verified. Describe a dataset
Original Fiund exercise
A calibration attachment must cover the result's instrument and measurement scope
A fictitious laboratory packet describes a harmless demonstration weight using arbitrary units. No client specimen, approved test method or certification decision is included.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| TL1 | Result card R | Instrument BAL-2; method DEMO-v3; result 12 U; expanded uncertainty 0.2 U, stated coverage factor 2; recorded room condition C. |
| TL2 | Attached calibration card | Reference CAL-A covers BAL-1 in the relevant period and range. R cites CAL-A; no BAL-2 cross-reference supplied. |
| TL3 | Control packet S | Result uses BAL-1, method DEMO-v3 and matching CAL-A; unit, period, range and uncertainty fields all supplied for this document-matching exercise. |
Question for the model
Which packet has an instrument-reference discrepancy, and what can a document reviewer conclude about the control packet from these records?
Show the reference answer and checks
TL1 names BAL-2 while TL2's CAL-A covers BAL-1, so R lacks a matching calibration reference in the supplied packet. Request the BAL-2 evidence rather than silently substituting another instrument's card. TL3 has no stated instrument mismatch and supplies the listed fields, which supports passing this narrow completeness check. It does not establish the full measurement traceability chain, method validity, accreditation or fitness for a particular use.
- Accepting any attached calibration card without checking the instrument identity.
- Treating a completed checklist as proof of accreditation or suitability for an unstated application.
Fields to preserve
- Result instrument and method revision
- Identifies the measurement's stated basis.
- Calibration instrument, period and range
- Allows scope matching.
- Uncertainty statement and reviewer finding
- Preserves the documented result and the limited review outcome.
Test another case
Supply a BAL-2 card covering the wrong range. Require the reviewer to resolve the identity mismatch while keeping the scope gap open.
Use original dummy certificates and harmless synthetic readings. Qualified staff retain all certification, safety and compliance judgments.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
