Architecture drawing issue and model revision data for AI
A drawing set and a model export can carry different revisions for the same element.

A drawing set and a model export can carry different revisions for the same element. The National Institute of Building Sciences publishes BIM execution planning resources on project information exchanges. An architecture firm can use a small original design to test whether software retrieves the correct version and calls out conflicts. NIBS BIM execution planning
Make a fictional two-room project and give a doorway a versioned detail. Issue a plan excerpt after an approved change and pair it with an older model export. Ask which documents support the current revision and where the two sources differ. Keep issue dates and drawing identifiers in the reviewer’s key.
Use an original model and drawings. Leave client plans, site coordinates, security details, proprietary families and contractor documents out. The sample evaluates coordination evidence.

Original Fiund exercise
An issued plan and an older model can disagree about the same doorway
An original two-room practice design uses arbitrary dimensions. The exercise concerns coordination evidence and gives no building, accessibility or engineering approval.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| ARQ1 | Practice drawing sheet S1 revision A | Door D1 width 20 units; D2 width 18. |
| ARQ2 | Approved issue S1 revision B | D1 changes to 24; D2 unchanged. Issue date day 5. |
| ARQ3 | Model export M1 | Exported day 4 against revision A; D1 width 20. A separate D2 detail has no D1 revision authority. |
Question for the model
Which drawing value is current for D1, and what conflict remains in the model export without a newer coordinated model?
Show the reference answer and checks
ARQ2 makes 24 units the current issued D1 width under sheet S1 revision B. ARQ3 predates that issue and still shows A's 20-unit value. It is evidence of a model-to-drawing conflict, not a later override or proof of coordinated completion. D2's unchanged detail does not resolve D1. Cite sheet, element, revision and export basis separately without making an installation or code decision.
- Choosing a model value without checking the drawing issue it was exported against.
- Applying another doorway's detail as a correction for D1 or inferring that a model was updated after a plan issue.
Fields to preserve
- Sheet, element and revision
- Defines the current design source.
- Issue and export dates
- Explains the stale model.
- Model-to-drawing basis
- Makes the coordination conflict inspectable.
Test another case
Export a new model after day 5 but explicitly from revision A. Require source-basis matching rather than assuming a newer export timestamp means newer content.
Use original models and drawings. Exclude clients, coordinates, security details, proprietary families and contractor documents.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
