NAICS 326140 · Polystyrene Foam Product Manufacturing

The EPS Industry Alliance publishes information about expanded-polystyrene products. A manufacturer can define an original inspection task involving cavity identity, inserted components and the visible evidence supplied. EPS Industry Alliance

Create a fictional molded-part drawing, a cavity register and a mock packing instruction. Use cardboard props with a removable insert. Give two cavities similar outer geometry but different insert locations. Ask the assistant which observed part matches the instruction and which cavity reference is supported by its ticket. Include a top view that hides the insert's orientation and a second view that resolves it.

Annotate part identity, cavity, insert, reference face, drawing revision and view. Hold out a new part outline for evaluation. Score wrong-cavity matching, an unseen orientation guessed from the top view and use of an old instruction independently. The key should avoid assigning material density, thermal performance or strength from a similar appearance.

Use original designs and harmless props. Customer tooling, branded packaging, proprietary production data and outside testing reports need authority for the intended use. A licensing proposal should identify the geometry-and-identity task and independent key. Confirm the buyer's required views and source relationships before planning a larger collection.

Original Fiund exercise

An insert change applies to only one cavity

An invented foam tray is represented by flat silhouettes with colored notches.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
1Cavity registerCavity A changes from notch X to Y at cycle 50; B remains X.
2Packing cardSample S from B, cycle 55; expected notch field says Y.
3ImageS has a visible X notch.

Question for the model

Should the image or the packing reference be flagged?

Show the reference answer and checks

Flag the packing reference in record 2. Record 1 says the revision applied to A, while S came from B and shows the expected X in record 3. A later cycle does not extend a cavity-specific change to other cavities.

  • Applying all tooling changes across all cavities
  • Flagging correct geometry against an inapplicable reference

Fields to preserve

cavity_scope
Identifies which cavity changed
insert_effectivity
Sets the cycle boundary within that scope
visible_notch
Supports independent comparison

Test another case

Remove the cavity ID and use geometry common to old A and current B; require unresolved origin.

No mold process parameters, product qualification or actual production drawings.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
