Plastic profile data for AI cross-section and reference-face checks

Extruded plastic profiles can share an overall envelope while differing in a small internal feature.

NAICS 326121 · Unlaminated Plastics Profile Shape Manufacturing

Extruded plastic profiles can share an overall envelope while differing in a small internal feature. The Census manual defines the profile-manufacturing scope. An original exercise can make the comparison depend on a specific drawing and reference face. Census plastics profile scope

Draw two fictional profile sections and create harmless paper or printed props. Give one profile an offset channel and mark the reference face in the instruction. Ask the assistant which observed section matches the issued drawing. Include a mirrored view, a superseded drawing and a finished-length ticket whose section identifier is absent. The key should separate the visible geometry finding from the unresolved ticket association.

Annotate section identifier, reference face, feature location, drawing revision and evidence view. Hold out an unfamiliar profile outline for evaluation. Score mirrored orientation, use of the old drawing and identity inferred from dimensions alone independently. A complete case should provide enough evidence for a supported section match.

Use original designs and invented records. Customer dies, licensed profiles, material declarations and production-system exports need permission for the intended AI use. Describe the geometry-and-evidence task and independent key to prospective buyers. Their accepted brief should guide further document preparation or authorized capture.

Original Fiund exercise

Two lengths taken from opposite faces

The contributor draws original stepped profiles. A mock cut record uses offsets measured from a marked face.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
1DrawingFeature F at 12 mm from marked face on a profile 30 mm wide.
2Cut sheetF recorded 18 mm from unmarked face, on the same axis.
3PhotoMarked face and F visible; no independent scale in image.

Question for the model

Do the coordinates necessarily conflict?

Show the reference answer and checks

No. With the same width and axis in records 1 and 2, 30 − 18 gives 12 mm from the marked face. Record 3 supports the identity of the reference feature but cannot independently quantify the distance. Retain the original coordinate origins.

  • Comparing offsets without transforming their origins
  • Using an unscaled photo as a dimensional measurement

Fields to preserve

reference_face
Defines coordinate origin
measurement_axis
Ensures the offsets share a line
profile_width_mm
Allows conversion between opposite origins

Test another case

Change the second record to a different width variant; require confirming the actual width before transforming its offset.

No proprietary extrusion profiles, machine setups or actual cutting tolerances.

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
