Paint retailer tint order, base and finish data for AI
A paint counter may see two containers with a similar color name and different bases or finishes.

A paint counter may see two containers with a similar color name and different bases or finishes. EPA publishes architectural coatings information. A retailer can build a label and order verification task with empty prop cans. EPA architectural coatings resources
Make original labels for two inert cans and a mock ticket with an updated sheen. Photograph the matching labels under fixed light. Add a swatch that looks similar but belongs to an earlier order. Ask which attributes are supported by the written record and which cannot be verified visually.
Use your own swatches, labels and containers. Exclude actual formulas, customer addresses and proprietary color libraries. Keep product use and compliance judgments outside the exercise.

Original Fiund exercise
A similar swatch cannot prove the selected base or revised sheen
Empty original prop cans and independently drawn swatches use abstract color and finish labels. There is no paint formula, chemical handling, customer address or actual product-use advice.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| PSH1 | Order versions | Mock order O1 color C, base B1, original sheen S1. Approved v2 changes only sheen to S2, retaining base and color. |
| PSH2 | Can A image | Readable original label C/B1/S2, matched O1/v2. Fixed-light appearance described independently. |
| PSH3 | Similar swatch and other can | Swatch looks like C but belongs to earlier O0/S1. Can B label C/B2/S2; color and sheen match but base differs. |
Question for the model
Which can matches the current order fields, and can the swatch or matching color override the different base or sheen evidence?
Show the reference answer and checks
PSH1 and PSH2 match A to current O1/v2: C, B1 and S2. PSH3's old swatch does not verify O1's revised sheen, and can B conflicts on base despite matching color and sheen labels. Preserve each attribute and its written source rather than infer formulation or finish from appearance under one light. The exercise establishes a mock order match, not product-use, environmental or compliance advice.
- Using a similar swatch from another order to establish the current sheen.
- Accepting color and finish while ignoring a conflicting base field.
Fields to preserve
- Order and revision
- Selects current requirements.
- Color, base and sheen
- Separates variant attributes.
- Observed label and swatch provenance
- Limits visual inference.
Test another case
Add a label where base is obscured but color and sheen match. Require a partial match and clearer base evidence.
Use original empty containers and swatches. Exclude formulations, private color libraries and customer records; qualified staff retain actual product decisions.
