Optometry image laterality and exam linkage data for AI

An optometry exam can contain measurements and images from both eyes.

An optometry exam can contain measurements and images from both eyes. The National Eye Institute describes a dilated eye exam and the checks that may form part of it. A practice can create an original test for laterality and source matching using diagrams that contain no identifiable eye images. National Eye Institute eye exam overview

Draw two abstract target images and add mock right and left labels, capture times and an exam identifier. Assign one file an inconsistent header. Ask which image matches the stated eye and encounter, and require escalation when image and record disagree. Score linkage rather than clinical interpretation.

Use your own drawings and fabricated records. Exclude retinal scans, prescriptions, face images, device exports and patient measurements. Ask an optometrist to review the scoring key.

Original Fiund exercise

A file header and the diagram's laterality label must agree

Two original abstract target drawings stand in for exam images. They contain no eye photograph, prescription, device export or actual measurement.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
OE1Mock exam registerExam E1 expects right-side target R1 and left-side target L1, captured day 2.
OE2Drawing AVisible label RIGHT, header side RIGHT, exam E1, day 2. Exact register link R1 supplied.
OE3Drawing BVisible label LEFT, header side RIGHT, exam E1, day 2. Filename says L1 but no reviewed correction or controlling label rule supplied.

Question for the model

Which drawing has a consistent right-side linkage, and can B be silently assigned to an eye using its filename?

Show the reference answer and checks

OE1 and OE2 consistently match drawing A to E1's right-side R1 target. OE3 conflicts between its visible LEFT label and RIGHT header, while the filename alone supplies no authorized resolution. Flag B's exact laterality discrepancy for reviewer confirmation rather than silently changing a field or assigning it to the right or left eye. The fixture evaluates source linkage, not vision, diagnosis or clinical image content.

  • Trusting a filename over conflicting image and header labels without a controlling source.
  • Treating the correct exam date as sufficient when laterality disagrees.

Fields to preserve

Exam and target reference
Defines the expected pair.
Visible versus header laterality
Exposes conflicting evidence.
Capture date and correction authority
Supports reviewed resolution.

Test another case

Add a specialist-reviewed B correction explicitly assigning LEFT. Require the corrected field and original conflict to retain their provenance.

Use original diagrams reviewed by a qualified practitioner. Exclude retinal images, faces, prescriptions and patient measurements.
