Nonferrous foundry data for AI casting and inspection evidence
Other nonferrous foundries include production outside the previously covered aluminum and die-casting groups.
NAICS 331529 · Other Nonferrous Metal Foundries (except Die-Casting)
Other nonferrous foundries include production outside the previously covered aluminum and die-casting groups. The Census manual defines the category. An original casting exercise can connect a melt reference, mold cavity and inspected article. Census foundry industry scope
Create a fictional bronze casting traveler, two cavity identifiers and original inspection drawings. Use clay or printed props to show similar parts. Ask the assistant which inspection result belongs to each casting and which dimensional observation is visible. Include a reworked casting with a later inspection record and an earlier report retained in the file. The key should identify the effective post-rework evidence.
Annotate melt, cavity, casting identity, rework event, drawing revision and inspection date. Hold out a new part geometry for evaluation. Score wrong-cavity matching, use of the pre-rework result and unsupported internal-defect claims independently. A surface view should establish only the features that the supplied image and records support.
Use original props and invented reports. Customer tooling, licensed drawings, melt recipes and outside inspection documents need permission and qualified review. Describe the inspection-history task and independently checked examples to prospective buyers. Their accepted brief should guide any larger archive or newly commissioned capture.

Original Fiund exercise
A report inherited the wrong cavity tag
Paper castings use two invented cavity letters and a small locator shape.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Traveler | Piece A7 from cavity X; piece A8 from Y. |
| 2 | Drawing overlay | A8 triangle marker corresponds to its Y variant. |
| 3 | Report header | A8, cavity X; report image shows triangle marker. |
Question for the model
What conflict should be retained in the inspection record?
Show the reference answer and checks
The report's A8 identifier and triangle image agree with the piece in records 1 and 2, but its cavity X header conflicts with A8's Y association. Flag the header conflict; do not silently merge it with A7 or infer a real tooling issue.
- Joining on the mistaken cavity alone
- Discarding a conflict once the image looks plausible
Fields to preserve
- piece_id
- Identifies the specimen directly
- cavity_header
- Preserves the reported cavity field
- locator_feature
- Provides independent image corroboration
Test another case
Use a triangle shared by both variants and remove the traveler; require unresolved cavity origin.
No actual casting tooling, bronze composition, process conditions or acceptance rules.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
