NAICS 334519 · Other Measuring and Controlling Device Manufacturing

Other measuring and controlling devices span several products. An original bench-comparison exercise can focus on the reference object and observation identity. NIST provides measurement-traceability context. NIST traceability guidance

Create fictional device labels, reference-object tickets and a comparison table. Give two objects the same nominal value but separate identifiers and records. Ask the assistant which comparison answers the selected request. Include a reference record whose stated scope does not cover the supplied object and a later correction to one specimen identifier.

Annotate device, reference object, specimen, property, unit, source scope and version. Evaluate with a new ticket layout and alias glossary. Score nominal equality treated as identity, a reference statement extended beyond its scope and use of the superseded identifier independently. The key should cite the evidence supporting each accepted association.

Use original records and invented values without conducting a live measurement. Customer applications, licensed methods, proprietary configurations and outside calibration material require permission and qualified review. Describe the reference-association task and checked examples to prospective buyers. Their accepted brief should guide the scope of further preparation.

Original Fiund exercise

Reference bias estimates depend on the exact artifact

A mock instrument measures paper reference objects. Values and labels are fictional.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
1Artifact registerObject A reference 10 units; object B reference 12.
2ObservationDevice D4 measured object B as 13.
3Draft calculationUses object A's reference and reports +3.

Question for the model

What observed difference should be recorded?

Show the reference answer and checks

For object B, 13 − 12 gives +1 unit from records 1 and 2. Record 3 uses the wrong artifact's reference. Store the +1 comparison for this observation without extending it to a general calibration status for D4.

  • Using a neighboring artifact's reference
  • Inferring overall instrument accuracy from one observation

Fields to preserve

reference_object_id
Joins observation to the correct target
assigned_reference_value
Provides comparison basis
observed_difference
Stores the computed result at its scope

Test another case

Use two assigned values for object B at different dates and select the effective value when observed.

No actual metrology procedures, calibration certificates, tolerances or instrument recommendations.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
