A movement record can contain a group count while a separate list supplies individual identifiers. APHIS describes animal disease traceability. A fictional exercise can test reconciliation across records while keeping real animals, facilities and customers out. USDA APHIS traceability resources

Invent a departure count and a receiving count, then supply a correction for one duplicated dummy ID. Include a group entry with no individual list. Ask which counts can be reconciled and which individuals can be linked. Score count, record state and the unresolved identity gap.

Use synthetic IDs, no animal handling footage, farm locations, customer records or actual health documents. Keep movement authorization with qualified staff.

Describe a fictional livestock movement sample

Original Fiund exercise

A corrected group count does not identify every individual without a roster

A fictional movement packet uses invalid training aliases and artificial counts. No live animal, farm, customer, health document or movement authorization is present.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
LWM1Group A departureCount three with listed individuals DEMO-1, DEMO-2, DEMO-3. Exact fictional group reference.
LWM2A receipt and correctionReceipt export initially lists four rows because DEMO-2 appears twice. Authorized correction removes the duplicate, retaining unique DEMO-1/2/3.
LWM3Group BMatched group-level departure and receipt both count two. No individual list, tag crosswalk or link to A.

Question for the model

Which counts reconcile after correction, and for which group can individual continuity be established?

Show the reference answer and checks

LWM2's correction reduces A's four receipt rows to three distinct individuals matching LWM1. Preserve the duplicate as historical error rather than treat it as a fourth animal. LWM3 reconciles B's aggregate two-to-two count but lacks the roster needed to verify individual continuity. Report group and individual evidence separately, without assuming that equal counts identify the same members or authorize any real movement.

  • Counting a duplicated individual reference as an extra received unit.
  • Inferring exact individual continuity from balancing group totals without a roster.

Fields to preserve

Group and invalid individual IDs
Defines identity levels.
Departure/receipt count and correction
Supports reconciliation.
Roster presence and unresolved continuity
Limits the claim.

Test another case

Give B a two-member receipt roster but no departure roster. Require receipt identities to be reported without proving cross-stage continuity.

Use original fictional records. Exclude animal footage, farms and health records; qualified staff retain all actual movement decisions.
