Grain wholesale sample and measurement basis data for AI
A grain shipment can have a measured value, a stated reporting basis and a separate grade record.

A grain shipment can have a measured value, a stated reporting basis and a separate grade record. USDA’s Federal Grain Inspection Service publishes reference methods. A distributor can use mock records to test whether software cites the correct sample before comparing values. USDA grain inspection reference methods
Invent a lot with two dummy sampling events and a measurement tied to just one. Give the other report a different basis and no conversion metadata. Ask which values can be compared and which lot identity the evidence supports.
Use original records and no actual product samples, commercial prices, farm identities or quality certificates. Keep grading and release with qualified staff.
Describe a fictional grain measurement exercise
Original Fiund exercise
A dated grain sample and another report's moisture basis cannot be merged silently
An original lot-review fixture uses fictional sampling events and abstract readings. There is no actual grain, farm, price, quality certificate or release judgment.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| GWM1 | Lot and sample register | Lot L has sample A taken day 1 and sample B day 2. Both explicitly linked to L but separate events. |
| GWM2 | A measurement | Original report R-A names sample A, day 1, value 12 practice percent on basis W. No separate grade decision. |
| GWM3 | B report | R-B names B and value 13 percent on basis D. No conversion metadata, paired basis or authorized comparison rule. Folder heading repeats L. |
Question for the model
Which measurements attach to each sample, and can the one-point numerical difference be called a comparable change in L?
Show the reference answer and checks
GWM1 through GWM3 link 12 percent on W to A/day one and 13 percent on D to B/day two, both within L. Different bases and sampling events prevent treating their raw one-point difference as a like-for-like moisture change. Request a documented conversion or paired basis and preserve the sample dates. No grade, release or storage recommendation follows from sharing a lot heading or a percentage symbol.
- Comparing percentages across different bases without conversion.
- Combining separate sample events under a lot header and attributing one result to both.
Fields to preserve
- Lot, sample and date
- Defines lineage.
- Value, unit and analysis basis
- Preserves meaning.
- Conversion and comparison evidence
- Limits trend claims.
Test another case
Supply B on basis W but omit its method reference. Require basis agreement and a separate method-comparability question.
Use original dummy records only. Exclude actual samples, commercial prices and certificates; qualified staff retain grading and release decisions.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
