Graphic design variants and source asset rights data for AI
A design team can reuse a composition while changing the assets, crop and text for a different channel.

A design team can reuse a composition while changing the assets, crop and text for a different channel. The Copyright Office provides visual arts resources, and Section508.gov publishes guidance for alternative text. A designer can test whether software preserves the relationships between each export and its supporting records. Copyright Office visual arts resources · Section 508 alternative text guidance
Create two original graphics from geometric shapes. Give one a versioned source asset and approved alternative text. Give the second an outdated crop note and no current use permission. Ask which export has supporting records and what needs confirmation before release.
Use original text, illustrations and fonts you may redistribute. Keep customer campaigns, licensed stock files and client feedback out of the package.
Describe an original graphic design sample
Original Fiund exercise
An export needs its current crop, source asset and alternative-text record
Two original geometric graphics have authored source and export records. The exercise uses no stock art, client campaign, licensed font or protected feedback.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| GD1 | Variant A source map | Export EA uses original asset SA revision 2, crop R2; U permission and alternative text AT2 explicitly reference EA/R2. |
| GD2 | Variant B map | Export EB uses original SB crop R3. Attached crop note still says R1; SB U permission pending. |
| GD3 | Shared layout card | A and B share layout L. No record extends EA's asset permission or alternative text to EB. |
Question for the model
Which export has a complete stated support chain, and can the shared layout or A's alternative text close B's crop and permission gaps?
Show the reference answer and checks
GD1 explicitly links EA to SA revision 2, crop R2, a U grant and matching AT2. GD2 leaves EB with a stale crop note and pending SB permission. GD3's shared layout does not identify EB's current crop or grant SB's use, and EA's alternative text is not a verified description of EB. Report the asset, crop, description and permission checks separately rather than clearing variants from one common composition.
- Copying alternative text from another crop without checking visible content.
- Extending one source asset's permission to another export through a shared layout.
Fields to preserve
- Export-to-source revision
- Preserves the original resource.
- Crop and alternative-text version
- Links the description to the displayed content.
- Asset-specific use permission
- Keeps layout reuse separate from source clearance.
Test another case
Clear SB for U but leave the R1 note and missing current description. Require permission to resolve without treating all release checks as complete.
Use original graphics, text and redistributable fonts. Exclude clients, licensed stock and private feedback.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
