Two pieces can look alike while their lot identifiers differ. The Carpet and Rug Institute publishes carpet installation standards. A flooring dealer can test whether software ties a quantity or visible sample to the right lot before calculating coverage. Carpet and Rug Institute installation standards

Create two original swatches and mock case labels. State the area per carton for one and supply only the carton count for the other. Ask which coverage can be computed and whether matching appearance proves lot identity. Use a reviewer key for units and lot.

Use owned samples or original art. Keep client floor plans, addresses, costs, actual orders and proprietary patterns out.

Describe a mock flooring coverage sample

Original Fiund exercise

Carton count is not coverage without a matching area-per-carton field

Two owned display swatches and original case labels use invented lot codes and practice area. No client floor plan, order, installation or price calculation is involved.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
FCV1Lot A stockThree cartons, original label says 2 practice square units per carton. Swatch A links to lot A.
FCV2Lot B stockFour cartons, area-per-carton field absent. Swatch B looks similar but readable tag shows distinct lot B.
FCV3Summary draftDraft uses A's case area for both lots and calls the swatches identical stock. No matching B specification or approved lot equivalence supplied.

Question for the model

Which coverage total follows from the record, and can appearance or A's case label establish B's area or lot identity?

Show the reference answer and checks

FCV1 supports six practice square units for A: three cartons times two per carton. FCV2 lacks B's own area-per-carton value, so its four cartons cannot be converted from A's label. The readable lot tags also distinguish A and B despite visual resemblance. Correct FCV3's unsupported coverage and identity assumptions; do not calculate a combined total or claim real material compatibility or installation coverage.

  • Borrowing one lot's carton area to fill another lot's missing basis.
  • Treating similar swatch appearance as proof of a matching lot identifier.

Fields to preserve

Lot and swatch reference
Defines the material.
Carton count and area per carton
Supports coverage conversion.
Label completeness and unresolved equivalence
Limits aggregation.

Test another case

Supply B's verified 1.5 square units per carton. Require six square units for B without merging lots merely because total areas now match.

Use original or owned samples. Exclude actual orders, client plans, costs and proprietary patterns; the task gives no installation advice.
