A distributor can receive bags of the same variety with distinct lots and testing dates. USDA Agricultural Marketing Service describes the Federal Seed Act. An original sample can test whether software retrieves the correct label without making a planting or regulatory recommendation. USDA Federal Seed Act resources

Draw two empty sack labels with different dates and original codes. Give one a matching test summary and the other only a product family reference. Ask what the record establishes about each lot and where verification remains pending.

Use dummy values, no actual seed or supplier files, and omit growers, customer records and shipment terms. Leave product decisions to qualified staff.

Describe a synthetic seed label exercise

Original Fiund exercise

A shared variety name does not carry one lot's testing date to another

Two empty original sack labels use artificial seed-lot IDs and abstract test codes. No seed, supplier file, grower, planting advice or regulatory finding is represented.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
FSL1Sack AVariety V, lot L1, label day 3. Original test summary names L1, test day 2 and abstract result Q.
FSL2Sack BVariety V, lot L2, label day 5. Only a V product-family brochure supplied; no test date or L2 result.
FSL3Draft mergeCopies day-2 result Q from L1 to L2 because both use V. No authorized lot equivalence or separate L2 test source.

Question for the model

Which test date and result are linked to a lot, and what does B's label date actually establish?

Show the reference answer and checks

FSL1 supports L1's day-two test and abstract result Q, separately from its day-three label date. FSL2 identifies L2 and its day-five label but supplies no test for that lot. FSL3's shared variety join cannot transfer L1's date or result, and label date is not automatically test date. Report the known label fields and missing L2 test evidence without making any actual quality, planting or regulatory recommendation.

  • Joining tests by variety while ignoring lot identity.
  • Using a printed label date as the test date without a stated relationship.

Fields to preserve

Variety and lot alias
Defines the sample scope.
Label date versus test date
Preserves distinct events.
Test-source target and missing field
Limits the result.

Test another case

Add an L2 test dated day four but leave result blank. Require date to resolve independently of quality evidence.

Use original empty labels and fictional values. Exclude supplier and customer files; qualified staff retain actual product decisions.

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
