A distributor may see one base model across regions with different identifiers, plug types or packaging.

A distributor may see one base model across regions with different identifiers, plug types or packaging. ENERGY STAR’s product finder gives a public example of product-level records. A fictional catalog exercise can assess whether a model keeps attribute values attached to the correct suffix. ENERGY STAR product finder

Make two dummy product cards, region labels and an original carton photo. Leave the connector out of the image and attach a catalog for only one version. Ask which information can be verified and which claim requires another source.

Use original artwork and inert props. Keep real supplier product feeds, customer allocations, serial numbers and device activation information out.

Describe a fictional regional model sample

Original Fiund exercise

A readable regional suffix does not reveal an unseen connector

Two inert original cartons use fictional market and plug labels. No real electronics, serial, activation information, product feed or safety advice is represented.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
EMS1Variant cardsBase model M has suffix M-A for market A and M-B for market B. A's matched original catalog lists connector C1; B's connector field absent.
EMS2Carton viewReadable M-B and market B printed on carton. Connector not visible and box unopened.
EMS3Catalog attachmentOnly M-A/C1 catalog page attached to B's folder. No cross-market equivalence or B-specific connector source.

Question for the model

Which variant can be identified from the carton, and can the attached catalog establish its connector?

Show the reference answer and checks

EMS2 supports M-B for market B through visible suffix and region text. EMS1 and EMS3 attach C1 only to M-A, not B. The unopened carton supplies no direct connector evidence, so B's connector remains unresolved. Preserve market identity and missing attribute separately rather than generalize a base model across regional variants or present an electrical compatibility recommendation from mismatched packaging records.

  • Dropping market suffixes when retrieving variant attributes.
  • Inferring a hidden connector from a different region's catalog.

Fields to preserve

Base model and full market suffix
Defines the variant.
Carton visibility and connector field
Separates observed from missing evidence.
Catalog target and equivalence state
Limits attribute transfer.

Test another case

Add a B catalog naming C2 but a later carton photo still hiding the connector. Require documented C2 and unobserved physical connector to remain distinct.

Use original artwork and inert boxes. Exclude feeds, serials, activation details and customer allocations.
