Credit card dispute status records for AI review

A credit appearing on a statement can be temporary.

NAICS 522210 · Credit Card Issuing

A credit appearing on a statement can be temporary. A status summary needs to identify whether a later record finalizes, reverses, or leaves the case unresolved. CFPB’s credit card billing materials establish consumer-facing context. An issuer can design a synthetic timeline for evidence review without copying a real dispute. CFPB billing error guide

Use a dummy transaction and two statement cycles. Add a provisional entry in one cycle, a later decision document, and a similar credit for an unrelated transaction. Ask which evidence supports the status and what remains open if the final notice is removed. Score transaction matching and status separately. Do not ask the assistant to determine legal eligibility or resolve the claim.

Exclude card numbers, merchant evidence, account histories, protected consumer records, and internal detection rules. Clear any processor-provided formats used in a real follow-up. Use invented documents for an initial brief.

Describe a dispute evidence exercise

Original Fiund exercise

A provisional credit and a final notice support different dispute states

An invented dispute timeline contains original cards with inert transaction IDs. No card number, merchant evidence or consumer account history is used.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
CD1Cycle 1 statementTransaction T1: provisional credit 40 practice units, dispute D1 still under review.
CD2Final noticeDay 20 notice for D1/T1 explicitly makes the existing 40-unit credit final. It does not create an additional credit.
CD3Other adjustmentTransaction T2 has a separate 40-unit credit labeled merchant adjustment, with no D1 reference.

Question for the model

What status is supported for D1 before and after day 20, and does the packet show two credits for T1?

Show the reference answer and checks

CD1 supports a provisional credit while D1 remains under review. CD2 changes that same D1/T1 credit to final on day 20; it does not document a second 40-unit posting. CD3 belongs to T2 and cannot be counted toward T1. Preserve status and posting identity separately. If CD2 were absent, the packet would support only the provisional state, without a final outcome determination.

  • Describing a provisional statement entry as a final decision before its notice.
  • Adding a status-finalization notice to the credited amount as if it were another posting.

Fields to preserve

Dispute and transaction IDs
Links the timeline to the right case.
Credit reference and provisional state
Distinguishes a posting from its review status.
Notice effective date and cited decision
Documents the supported status change.

Test another case

Replace CD2 with a request for more information. Require the case to remain unresolved despite its later timestamp.

Use original mock documents. Exclude account histories, evidence files and detection rules; legal eligibility and claim resolution remain outside the evaluation.

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project.
