Audio and video equipment data for AI channel and level context
NIST publishes measurement-traceability guidance.
NAICS 334310 · Audio and Video Equipment Manufacturing
NIST publishes measurement-traceability guidance. An equipment manufacturer can define an original task in which a signal observation needs its channel, reference convention and configuration to answer a request. NIST measurement-traceability context
Create fictional channel maps, test logs and explicitly defined reference-level conventions. The original test content has separate L-MARKER and R-MARKER clip identifiers. A routing map connects input channels to output channels, while an observation log identifies the clip detected at each output. Ask the assistant whether the recorded routing matches the issued map. Include a swapped-channel case and another case whose output label is missing.
Keep the clip identity separate from its measured level. A matching level cannot establish that the correct marker reached the intended channel. Provide a level request whose reference convention is absent, requiring a specific evidence question. Evaluate with renamed channels and new marker content. The review key checks routing, marker identity and level context independently, with no inference from a familiar waveform shape alone.
Use original documents, invented values and contributor-owned test content. Customer recordings, licensed media, proprietary firmware records and outside calibration material need appropriate permission. Describe the context-selection task and independent key in the licensing brief. Establish buyer requirements before preparing a larger archive or authorized capture.

Two identical readings use different channel references
An invented audiovisual bench log uses arbitrary level units. No actual equipment settings or mixing advice are given.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Channel map | Input 1 uses reference R0; input 2 uses R5. |
| 2 | Test log | Both channels display +3 relative to their local reference. |
| 3 | Glossary | R5 lies five units above R0; report absolute offsets relative to R0. |
Question for the model
What should the normalized levels be?
Show the reference answer and checks
Input 1 is +3 and input 2 is +8 relative to R0. Apply the five-unit reference offset in record 3 to input 2's local +3 in record 2. Preserve the separate raw values and references from record 1.
- Treating equal displayed values as equal physical references
- Subtracting the offset in the wrong direction
Fields to preserve
- channel_key
- Associates the reading with its signal path
- local_reference
- Defines the reading's zero
- normalized_level
- Allows same-frame comparison
Test another case
Use a channel swap mid-session and match the reference to each capture time.
No proprietary recordings, actual calibration targets, electrical levels or production mixing instructions.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
