Architectural metal data for AI pattern and panel identity

Ornamental and architectural metalwork is a defined Census category.

NAICS 332323 · Ornamental and Architectural Metal Work Manufacturing

Ornamental and architectural metalwork is a defined Census category. An original visual task can compare a patterned panel with the approved artwork and its fabrication reference. Census architectural-metal scope

Design a self-authored geometric pattern and split it into numbered paper panels. Supply an original layout and panel register. Ask the assistant which placement preserves the issued pattern. Include a rotated panel that fits the outer dimensions and a later artwork revision that changes a corner detail. The key should identify orientation and effective design separately.

Annotate panel, pattern region, reference face, layout position and artwork revision. Hold out a new pattern family for evaluation. Score a fit in the envelope treated as a pattern match, a rotated detail missed and use of the old artwork independently. The reference answer should cite the design region supporting each finding.

Use original artwork and inert props. Customer designs, licensed decorative work, commissioned drawings and proprietary fabrication files need source-specific authority. A licensing brief should define the pattern-review task and checked examples, with ownership recorded for the artwork. Confirm buyer requirements before preparing a larger archive or capture.

Original Fiund exercise

A continuous pattern meets two panel edges

An owned geometric paper mural is divided into numbered panels with edge marks.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
1Elevation sketchP2 east must meet P3 west; diagonal line should cross at marker 4.
2Assembly photoP2 east and P3 west abut; line reaches marker 4 on P2 and marker 2 on P3.
3Component sheetP3 shown with an upside-down corner marker relative to the sketch.

Question for the model

Which observations should the reviewer keep?

Show the reference answer and checks

Records 1 and 2 confirm the correct panel pair and edge pairing but show a discontinuity at markers 4 and 2. Record 3 separately supports a P3 orientation discrepancy. Keep both observations; the case does not establish that rotation alone fully explains the mismatch.

  • Using panel adjacency as proof of pattern continuity
  • Converting a marker difference directly into a manufacturing cause

Fields to preserve

panel_edge_pair
Defines adjacent edges
crossing_marker
Measures visible pattern continuity
corner_orientation
Tracks rotation independently

Test another case

Use a correctly oriented P3 with a different marker offset to separate alignment from part rotation.

Original paper art only; exclude customer elevations, actual building dimensions and engineering judgments.

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
