A replacement part can supersede an older number while a kit still contains the old component.

A replacement part can supersede an older number while a kit still contains the old component. Auto Care’s PIES standard provides product information context. A distributor can create an original exercise that checks the direction of a substitution and its documented scope. Auto Care Association PIES
Make a practice catalog with an old part, replacement and bundle. Give the replacement a narrower stated fitment and put the old part on the bundle manifest. Ask which fields changed, which fitment claims have evidence and whether the bundle was updated. Score component and catalog versions separately.
Use invented part numbers and your own diagrams. Keep client orders, licensed fitment tables, manufacturer art and commercial price lists out.
Describe a synthetic parts supersession example
Original Fiund exercise
A catalog supersession can narrow fitment without updating a bundle's physical contents
Invented part codes and abstract fit classes form an original catalog fixture. No actual vehicle, parts feed, installation, customer order or safety advice is represented.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| APS1 | Original catalog and bundle | Old part P1 lists practice fit classes X and Y. Bundle K/v1 manifest names P1 as its actual component. |
| APS2 | Replacement record | P2 supersedes P1 only for class X under reviewed catalog v2; class Y not supported for P2. Direction P1 to P2 only within that scope. |
| APS3 | Bundle evidence | K/v1 current observed prop and manifest still name P1. No K/v2 update or verified P2 insertion supplied. |
Question for the model
What substitution is documented, can P2 be used as evidence for class Y, and did bundle K change?
Show the reference answer and checks
APS2 supports the stated P1-to-P2 substitution for X only. It supplies no Y fitment or reverse substitution, despite APS1's older P1 scope covering Y. APS3 preserves K/v1's observed P1 component; catalog supersession does not physically update the bundle. Report fit class, direction and bundle revision separately rather than propagate the replacement across all applications or imply an actual installation recommendation.
- Extending a narrower replacement across the old part's complete fitment range.
- Assuming a catalog update automatically changes the kit manifest or its contents.
Fields to preserve
- Old/new part and substitution direction
- Defines the relationship.
- Documented fit class and version
- Limits applicability.
- Bundle manifest and observed component
- Separates catalog from fulfillment.
Test another case
Add a new bundle K/v2 manifest listing P2 but an old pack still labeled K/v1. Require physical and current catalog states to remain distinct.
Use original dummy numbers and drawings. Exclude licensed fitment data and pricing; qualified staff retain actual fitment decisions.
