Sublicensing
A licensee’s right to pass licensed data on to third parties such as subsidiaries, contractors, or research partners. Suppliers should check whether it is permitted, because it widens who ultimately holds their material.
Buyers ask for it to cover the parties that touch data during training: cloud providers, annotation vendors, affiliates. Owners narrow it — named categories only, the same obligations flowing down, no independent right to redistribute. Left uncontrolled, sublicensing converts one licence into many.
Why it matters
The clause decides how far beyond the signature page the data actually travels.
