DXTR review for phone-captured robot manipulation data

DXTR offers a phone capture workflow and retargeted manipulation trajectories.

Public-source review. Fiund is a competing AI-data business. No paid engagement was tested for this review.

DXTR offers a phone capture workflow and retargeted manipulation trajectories. Its method reconstructs how the object moved in a human demonstration and solves a corresponding motion for a particular robot. The company describes RGB video, camera pose and optional LiDAR depth on compatible phones, plus LeRobot and MCAP exports. Its public playground shows pass, fail or refusal outcomes by capture and robot. DXTR product · DXTR capture-to-trajectory pipeline · DXTR FAQ

What to test in a pilot

Choose one object and a target robot with a defined gripper and starting state. Ask which object motion is estimated, what simulation checks passed, and which attempts were rejected or refused. Obtain the raw source or a reproducible trace alongside the exported trajectories. Compare time alignment and tolerances against the target task. A simulation pass supports a simulation claim. Request separate evidence for performance on physical hardware.

Rights and contributor fit

DXTR describes an Eye app for collection and a buyer path for commissioned work. Confirm task and device eligibility and get payment, rejection, reuse and removal terms in writing before contributing. Review audio and scene capture permissions even when the desired output is robot motion. Buyers should confirm whether the contract covers source video, derived geometry and trajectories separately, and check downstream model rights. DXTR contributor and device FAQ

An original retargeting review record

Imagine a source video in which a person moves a lightweight prop from the near side of a table to a marked tray. The source camera loses sight of the prop briefly. Ask the provider to identify which motion is estimated during that gap and whether the export records uncertainty, rejects the attempt or supplies another supported resolution.

Keep separate fields for capture identity, reconstruction version, target robot configuration and the result of each check. A trajectory for one gripper and starting arrangement should not be relabeled as validated for another. Request the conditions attached to any pass, failure or refusal so a downstream user can reproduce the same scope.

Review geometry and execution claims at their stated level

Ask which coordinate system, timing, units and source alignment the package uses. Check the export against the supplied schema before considering a physical deployment. Obtain separate evidence for a reconstruction, a simulation result and an observed hardware result. The public pipeline description does not make those outcomes interchangeable.

A contributor should verify the accepted capture method and the applicable use and payment terms. A buyer should identify whether source video, derived geometry and robot-specific trajectories are all licensed deliverables. The fictional tabletop exercise offers a way to ask precise questions; it is not a motion plan or a claim that Fiund tested a robot.
