Utility regulation tariff filing and effective-date data for AI
A filing can propose a date that differs from the date in a later order.

A filing can propose a date that differs from the date in a later order. FERC’s eTariff resources describe electronic tariff filings. A regulator can test whether software retrieves the applicable source and flags a proposal that has no supported effective date. FERC eTariff resources
Invent a filing for a service category, an amended filing and an order that assigns a later effective date. Add a second category with no approved amendment. Ask which record supports each stated date and distinguish filing, publication and effect.
Use original examples or approved public records. Keep nonpublic rates, customer data, infrastructure schematics and enforcement work out. Leave actual tariff interpretation and regulatory decisions with authorized staff.
Describe a fictional tariff status sample
Original Fiund exercise
A filing's requested date differs from the date assigned by the order
An original tariff-style exercise uses neutral service categories and no rates. It tests filing and order provenance without applying a real tariff or making a regulatory decision.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| UT1 | Practice category A filing | Filed day 5; proposes effective day 10. Amended filing day 7 proposes day 12. |
| UT2 | Authorized practice order | Published day 9, assigns category A effective day 15. Expressly references the amended filing. |
| UT3 | Category B record | Existing rule effective day 1. Proposed amendment requests day 12; no approving order supplied. |
Question for the model
Which date is supported for category A effectivity, and what do the filing, publication and unapproved B amendment establish?
Show the reference answer and checks
UT2 explicitly assigns day 15 as category A's effective date, distinct from filing days 5/7, requested dates 10/12 and publication day 9. UT3 leaves B's amendment proposed without an approving order; the existing B record remains the only supplied effective source. Report those documentary stages rather than selecting a requested or published date as effectivity or carrying A's order into B.
- Using a requested filing date instead of the order-assigned date.
- Applying an A-specific order to B's unapproved amendment.
Fields to preserve
- Service category and filing revision
- Identifies the proposal under review.
- Requested, publication and effective dates
- Separates different date meanings.
- Order-to-filing relationship
- Provides the source for the authorized practice date.
Test another case
Issue a B order effective day 20 while asking about day 16. Require the model to preserve the existing rule for the earlier date.
Use fictional clauses and categories. Exclude nonpublic rates, customers, infrastructure schematics and enforcement work; real interpretation stays with authorized staff.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
