An asset can be unavailable in one territory or removed from one version while a duplicate identifier appears elsewhere. Copyright Office materials discuss online service provider and notice processes. A platform can create a synthetic exercise about availability evidence without supplying notices or user content. U.S. Copyright Office Section 512 overview

Invent a publication, a corrected duplicate and a reviewed removal for one asset. Keep product availability, contractual permission and moderation action as separate fields. Ask which record establishes each status and what to do when the cross-reference is absent. Include an example with no permission to export even though a practice item is marked public.

Use no actual uploads, account information, private enforcement rules, copyrighted content or real disputes. Keep decisions on removal and legal claims with authorized staff.

Describe a synthetic platform event sample

Original Fiund exercise

Availability, use permission and removal action are separate statuses

A fictional platform has dummy asset identifiers and reviewed event records. No actual upload, user account, notice or legal dispute is involved.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
SA1Practice publicationAsset A1 public in territory North; contractual practice-use U explicitly excluded.
SA2Reviewed removal eventA1 removed in North on day 5. Duplicate-looking A2 remains listed in South, but no source cross-reference connects A2 to A1.
SA3Permission and action registerNo U grant for A2; no removal action names A2. Its visible title matches A1.

Question for the model

Which removal and permission claims are supported for each identifier, and does the matching title or public status resolve the missing cross-reference?

Show the reference answer and checks

SA2 supports A1's North removal on day 5. SA1 separately excludes A1 from U, even while it was public. A2 has a matching title but no verified identity cross-reference, U grant or named removal action. Do not automatically extend A1's event to A2 or treat A2's public listing as export permission. Report the distinct statuses and refer the missing relationship for authorized review.

  • Treating public availability as contractual permission for the separate U use.
  • Extending a removal across titles or territories without the required asset link.

Fields to preserve

Asset and territory
Limits each availability event.
Removal action and effective time
Identifies what was actually reviewed and changed.
Contractual use status
Remains independent of public listing state.
Duplicate-source cross-reference
Shows whether two identifiers can be joined.

Test another case

Supply a verified A2-to-A1 source link but state the removal action remains North-only. Require the model to resolve lineage without broadening the territorial event.

Use synthetic records only. Exclude uploads, account data, private enforcement rules, copyrighted content and real notices or disputes.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
