Commercial and service machinery includes equipment assembled with different options. A contributor can define an original task around the option set documented for a completed unit. The Census manual provides industry scope. Census commercial machinery scope
Design a fictional dispensing cabinet with two removable modules, a customer order and an assembly list. Give two units the same enclosure but different installed options. Ask the assistant which unit matches the executed order. Include an accessory in the shipment that has no installation entry, plus a proposed option upgrade marked as canceled.
Annotate unit, ordered option, installed component, shipment item and document status. Evaluate with a new enclosure shape and option naming scheme. Score shipped accessories treated as installed options, use of the canceled upgrade and matching by enclosure alone separately. The reference key should cite the execution record supporting each installed option.
Use original designs, paper props and invented identifiers. Customer operating information, branded modules and licensed equipment files need permission. A licensing proposal should identify the option-review task, required evidence and checked examples. Establish buyer requirements before preparing commercial histories or commissioning additional authorized capture.

The order option changes only one module
A cardboard dispensing cabinet has removable mock modules; it uses no real machine or customer information.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Order | Cabinet C4, reader option R2, tray option T1. |
| 2 | Bill of materials | R2 uses module M9; T1 uses M3. |
| 3 | Assembly scan | C4 contains M8 and M3; M8 listed for reader option R1. |
Question for the model
Which configuration item needs review?
Show the reference answer and checks
The reader module needs review. Records 1 and 2 call for M9 under R2, while record 3 shows M8 for R1. The tray's M3 agrees independently. A correct base cabinet and tray do not resolve the option-specific mismatch.
- Matching only the cabinet model
- Treating an option discrepancy as a failure of every module

Test another case
Add an approved option substitution limited to one order; require scope matching before calling the swap valid.
No actual dispensing instructions, customer orders, payment hardware or compatibility claims.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
