INDUSTRY FIELD GUIDE
Seafood retailer origin, lot and case card data for AI
Two products may share a market name while their origin and production method differ.
NAICS 445250 · Fish and Seafood Retailers
Two products may share a market name while their origin and production method differ. USDA’s country-of-origin labeling guidance and FDA’s traceability list offer public context for the records involved. A retailer can test lookup using original display cards and fabricated receiving records. USDA country of origin labeling · FDA Food Traceability List
Make a mock receiving lot and two display cards with identical product names. Change the origin field on one and leave the production method blank. Ask which fields the receiving source supports and which require an authorized check.
Use empty props and invented suppliers. Exclude actual catch locations, distributor records, customer data and real food handling footage.

A matching market name does not establish origin or production method
Two empty display cases use independently written labels and invented suppliers. No seafood, actual catch location, distributor record, customer or food handling is represented.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| SO1 | Receiving source | Practice lot L1, display name DEMO-FISH, origin alias O1 and production-method code M1. Original reviewed lot reference supplied. |
| SO2 | Case A card | Exact L1 link, same name, but printed origin O2 and method blank. No revised receiving source or explanation for O2. |
| SO3 | Case B card | Same name, no readable lot. Displays O1/M1 copied from receiving summary; no verified L1 association. |
Question for the model
Which origin and method fields does the receiving source support, and what needs review for each display card?
Show the reference answer and checks
SO1 supports O1 and M1 for L1. SO2 links A to L1 but conflicts on its printed O2 and omits method; preserve that discrepancy instead of silently replacing the display fields. SO3 repeats O1/M1 but lacks a lot link, so its matching name cannot establish those values for B. Return separate field and identity findings for authorized review, without drawing actual origin, traceability-compliance or food-safety conclusions.
- Applying a lot's origin to another case with the same market name.
- Treating copied text or a blank production method as verified display compliance.
Fields to preserve
- Receiving lot and case target
- Defines traceability scope.
- Origin and method as separate fields
- Preserves source claims.
- Displayed value and conflict/missingness
- Supports review.
Test another case
Add B's verified L2 link and its own origin record. Require its fields to be matched independently of L1's copied card.
Use original empty props and invented records. Exclude actual suppliers, locations and handling footage.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
