Scientific research measurement and condition records for AI
An apparent replication can differ in test conditions, equipment or the version of the analysis.

An apparent replication can differ in test conditions, equipment or the version of the analysis. NSF provides guidance on research data management and sharing. NIST describes traceability as a property of a measurement result. A team can combine those ideas in an original documentation exercise. NSF data management plans · NIST measurement traceability
Build a dummy optical test with two independently recorded trials and one plot generated from an earlier version. Give a reviewer instrument and unit metadata with one known mismatch. Ask which trial the plot supports and what would be needed to assess repeatability.
Use harmless synthetic readings or cleared apparatus footage. Leave unpublished data, sponsor work, personal information and proprietary instrument procedures out.
Describe an original research measurement sample
Original Fiund exercise
A plot's parent run matters before calling a result a replication
A harmless fictional optical bench produces arbitrary demonstration readings. The package contains no unpublished research, material recipe or proprietary apparatus procedure.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| RM1 | Trial T1 record | Instrument I-A, ambient condition C1, values in demonstration units U, analysis v1. |
| RM2 | Trial T2 record | Independent run using instrument I-B, condition C2, values in milli-U, analysis v2; no conversion or comparability assessment included. |
| RM3 | Plot P metadata | Parent trial T1, analysis v1, vertical axis U. Filename includes the word repeat but does not reference T2. |
Question for the model
Which trial supports plot P, and what prevents this packet alone from showing repeatability across T1 and T2?
Show the reference answer and checks
RM3 identifies T1 and analysis v1 as P's parents, consistent with RM1. The filename is not evidence that P represents T2. RM2 differs in instrument, condition, unit scale and analysis version. Assessing repeatability needs the second run's linked output, explicit unit handling and a justified comparison basis for those differences. The packet establishes lineage for P, not a demonstrated replication or a traceability claim for either measurement.
- Using a filename's repeat label to substitute for recorded run lineage.
- Comparing values across U and milli-U without documenting unit conversion and experimental conditions.
Fields to preserve
- Trial and instrument reference
- Identifies the measurement event.
- Condition and unit
- Defines the comparison basis.
- Analysis version and plot parent
- Connects a rendered result to its actual source.
Test another case
Supply a T2 plot with explicit milli-U conversion but leave the condition comparison absent. Require partial reconciliation without claiming all comparability gaps are resolved.
Use synthetic readings and original diagrams; exclude sponsor data and controlled methods. A documentation exercise does not establish scientific validity.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
