Rental car pickup and return condition data for AI
An after-return image can make a mark look new if there is no comparable pickup view.

An after-return image can make a mark look new if there is no comparable pickup view. FTC car rental guidance gives context for consumer agreements and charges. A rental operator can test whether a model links two authorized views to the same vehicle and reports where comparison is impossible. FTC renting a car guide
Use an approved practice vehicle or training panel and two offline inspection records. Capture matching views for one panel and intentionally omit a pickup view for another. Ask which difference can be observed and which panel lacks a baseline. Keep vehicle alias, panel, lighting and view orientation in the evidence. The model does not decide who caused a mark or who pays.
Obtain vehicle and image permissions. Exclude real plates, customer belongings, receipts, rental account details, and embedded location metadata.
Describe a condition comparison sample
Original Fiund exercise
A return mark needs a comparable pickup view before it can be called new
Owned practice panels stand for a fictional vehicle's left and right sides. Authorized images describe appearance only, without assigning damage responsibility or charges.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| VC1 | Pickup image | Alias V1, left panel L, same light and angle as return view; small mark M visible. |
| VC2 | Return image | V1/L shows M in the same region. V1/right panel R shows mark N, but no pickup R view supplied. |
| VC3 | Other image | Pickup panel R from alias V2 has no mark N; no link identifies it as V1. |
Question for the model
What baseline comparison is supported for M, and can N be called newly incurred on V1 using the V2 image?
Show the reference answer and checks
VC1 and VC2 support that mark M was visible on V1's left panel at both pickup and return under comparable views. V1's right panel lacks a pickup baseline, so the return image establishes visible N but not when it arose. VC3 belongs to V2 and cannot supply V1's missing baseline. The records do not establish causation, renter responsibility or any charge.
- Calling every return-visible mark new when its pickup view is absent.
- Using a visually similar panel from another alias as the baseline.
Fields to preserve
- Vehicle alias and panel
- Defines a valid before-and-after pair.
- Light, angle and region
- Makes visual comparison conditions explicit.
- Baseline availability
- Separates observed return appearance from a new-damage claim.
Test another case
Supply V1/R pickup imagery with strong glare over N's region. Require the model to recognize that a baseline exists but may still be insufficient for absence comparison.
Use approved panels or an authorized practice vehicle. Exclude plates, customer belongings, receipts, account details and embedded location metadata.
