Environmental remediation sample custody and clearance records for AI

A remediation project may have sampling, lab receipt, results and a separate decision about clearance.

A remediation project may have sampling, lab receipt, results and a separate decision about clearance. EPA’s SW-846 sampling-plans chapter provides environmental sampling context. A remediation firm can create a fictional review exercise that tests record linkage and recognizes missing evidence. EPA SW-846 sampling plans

Invent two sample containers and one fictional chain-of-custody form. Give the lab receipt a matching ID for one container and a transcription error for the other. Add a synthetic result but leave clearance out. Ask which sample can be traced to the result and what remains outstanding. Score custody, measurement and decision records separately.

Use inert props, abstract site identifiers and dummy measurements. Leave actual environmental findings, properties, lab reports and client records out. Keep health, safety and clearance decisions with authorized professionals.

Describe a mock remediation evidence sample

Original Fiund exercise

A matching custody chain can support a result association without proving clearance

Two inert sample props and abstract measurement labels form an original environmental-document fixture. It contains no actual site, finding, chemical, lab report or clearance decision.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
RS1Custody sheetFictional site X: containers DEMO-S1 and DEMO-S2 dispatched under original chain C.
RS2Lab receipt and resultReceipt L1 exactly names DEMO-S1/C. Abstract result R1 names L1/DEMO-S1, value label A.
RS3Second receiptReceipt L2 says DEMO-52, digit 5 instead of S, and no correction link. Result R2 cites L2. No clearance document supplied for either sample.

Question for the model

Which sample has a linked result chain, and what remains unresolved for the second container and any clearance claim?

Show the reference answer and checks

RS1 and RS2 trace DEMO-S1 through chain C and receipt L1 to result R1. RS3's DEMO-52 conflicts with the dispatched DEMO-S2 identity and lacks an approved correction, so R2 cannot be confidently attached to S2. Neither chain supplies a clearance decision. Report custody association, abstract result lineage and missing professional decision separately instead of treating a received result as approval of a real site.

  • Silently normalizing a container transcription error without authoritative evidence.
  • Equating a laboratory result or receipt with clearance.

Fields to preserve

Container and custody reference
Defines the outbound sample.
Lab receipt and result parent
Supports lineage.
Identity discrepancy and clearance evidence
Separates matching from decision records.

Test another case

Add a reviewed L2 identity correction but no result amendment. Require the reviewer to establish whether the correction's scope explicitly covers the result link.

Use original simulated forms and inert props. Exclude actual findings, properties and lab data; authorized professionals retain health, safety and clearance decisions.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
