A distributor may see a capacity on a product sheet without the condition used to measure it. AHRI publishes a standard for performance ratings of certain condensing units. An original exercise can test whether software preserves the condition and the correct equipment reference. AHRI condensing unit rating standard overview

Create two dummy rating tables with different operating condition labels. Supply a matching unit identifier for one and only a family name for the other. Ask what can be compared and which source fields are missing. Use an independent answer key for units and conditions.

Keep actual refrigerants, equipment settings, client designs and installation guidance out. Use invented values and no energized equipment.

Describe a synthetic refrigeration rating sample

Original Fiund exercise

A capacity value needs both a matched unit and its stated test condition

Two original refrigeration rating cards use invented units and abstract condition labels. There is no energized equipment, refrigerant, actual setting, client design or installation guidance.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
RWC1Unit A cardExact dummy model U-A, capacity 10 practice units at condition C1. Original table and unit label matched.
RWC2Family tableShared family F lists capacity 12 at condition C2. Individual model identifier absent; no relationship to U-A's table.
RWC3RequestCompare U-A and proposed U-B at C1. U-B belongs to F, but no exact model/C1 value or authorized condition conversion supplied.

Question for the model

Which rating can be cited as-is, and what prevents the requested same-condition comparison?

Show the reference answer and checks

RWC1 supports U-A's stated ten-unit value at C1. RWC2 names only family F and C2, so its 12 cannot be assigned to U-B at C1. RWC3 lacks an exact B reference and a documented condition basis, leaving the comparison unresolved. Preserve model, condition and unit instead of reporting a two-unit advantage from mismatched sources or treating an original rating card as actual selection, operating or installation advice.

  • Comparing capacities at different conditions without a documented basis.
  • Assigning a family-level table to an exact model without matching identity.

Fields to preserve

Model and family scope
Defines attribution.
Capacity unit and test condition
Preserves meaning.
Reference match and missing conversion
Limits comparison.

Test another case

Supply a B-specific C2 card only. Require identity to resolve while the requested C1 comparison stays unsupported.

Use original tables and inert mockups. Exclude actual settings and installation; qualified staff retain real system decisions.
