Printing paper wholesale sheet format and weight basis data for AI
A paper order can specify a format, weight and quantity using different units.

A paper order can specify a format, weight and quantity using different units. GS1’s packaging levels give a way to distinguish the sellable unit and case. A distributor can make an original example where similar cartons need different conversions. GS1 US packaging levels
Invent two paper grades and mock case labels. One shows sheets per ream and reams per carton. The other shows a basis weight with no comparable sheet definition. Ask what quantity can be computed and where a weight comparison needs supporting metadata. Score basis and format separately.
Use original mock labels and owned paper. Keep customer print runs, vendor-only specs, sales terms and live inventory records out.

Sheet counts can convert across cartons while basis weights need their reference format
Two original paper-carton labels use artificial formats and basis-weight fields. No actual vendor specification, customer print run, sales term or inventory export is included.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| PWQ1 | Carton A | Format F1; 250 sheets per ream and 4 reams per carton. One A carton matched to the order. Basis-weight code 20 with reference format R1. |
| PWQ2 | Carton B | Format F2; basis-weight field 20 with no reference sheet definition. One carton received, ream and sheet counts absent. |
| PWQ3 | Comparison draft | Claims B contains 1,000 sheets and the same per-sheet weight as A because both show 20. No conversion or matching basis evidence. |
Question for the model
Which sheet total follows from the records, and can B's printed basis-weight number establish the same count or per-sheet weight?
Show the reference answer and checks
PWQ1 supports 1,000 sheets for A through four reams times 250 sheets each. PWQ2 confirms one B carton but supplies no ream or sheet conversion. Its bare 20 lacks the reference definition needed for a comparable weight basis and does not state count. Reject PWQ3's transfer of both quantities, preserving format, package hierarchy and basis weight separately until B's own specifications are available.
- Using one carton format's ream conversion for another.
- Comparing basis-weight numerals without the corresponding sheet definition.
Fields to preserve
- Format and carton hierarchy
- Defines the stock.
- Sheets per ream and reams per carton
- Supports count conversion.
- Weight reference definition and missingness
- Limits weight comparison.
Test another case
Supply B's 500-sheet carton count but omit basis format. Require quantities to reconcile without claiming weight equivalence.
Use original labels and owned paper. Exclude private vendor data, print runs and live inventory records.
