Paperboard mill data for AI caliper and direction records
Paperboard evaluation can depend on the property measured and the direction or location of the specimen.
NAICS 322130 · Paperboard Mills
Paperboard evaluation can depend on the property measured and the direction or location of the specimen. TAPPI's method-development guidance supplies context for defined measurement procedures. A contributor can create a narrow dataset around correctly associating those fields. TAPPI testing context
Prepare a fictional board-reel diagram, sample-cut map and laboratory table. Mark machine direction on the map. Give two measurements similar numbers but different property labels, and include a specimen from the opposite direction. Ask the assistant to select the evidence that answers a stated customer request. Leave one specimen's direction absent so the key must identify the unresolved comparison.
Annotate reel position, specimen identity, direction, units and report version. A held-out case can rotate the sample map and rename the product grade. Score wrong-direction association and substitution of a nearby property separately. The answer should cite the specific field supporting each selected value rather than infer performance from board thickness alone.
Use invented reports and sample conventions. Actual mill formulations, purchaser specifications and licensed testing documents need permission for the intended use. Explain the evidence-selection task and reviewer process to prospective buyers. Their accepted brief should determine what source relationships and product variation merit further preparation for licensing.

Original Fiund exercise
The sample has an axis; thickness has a method
A mock lab labels two strips by cutting direction. Its fictional table reports thickness per sheet, with a separate stack measurement.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| B1 | Cut map | Strip A parallel to reel arrow; strip B across it. |
| B2 | Lab table | Single-sheet A: 0.42 mm; single-sheet B: 0.44 mm. |
| B3 | Stack note | Stack of four from A: 1.74 mm, measured with another fixture. |
| B4 | Request | Give the difference between the documented single-sheet readings. |
Question for the model
What comparison is supported?
Show the reference answer and checks
The recorded B reading exceeds A by 0.02 mm in B2. B1 supplies the cutting directions, but does not establish that direction caused the difference. B3 uses a different fixture and specimen setup, so it is excluded from this specified single-sheet comparison.
- Converting a stack thickness into a replacement single-sheet reading
- Inferring directional causation from a pair of samples
Fields to preserve
- cut_direction
- Records the strip's orientation to its reel
- sheet_count
- Separates stack from single-sheet measurements
- fixture_id
- Prevents mixing measurement setups
Test another case
Put the single-sheet values in micrometers and millimeters to test both selection and unit conversion.
No authentic lab certificates, customer board specifications or performance claims.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
